BOT IS DERIVED FROM THE WORD ROBOT WHICH IS CLOUD-BASED SOFTWARE THAT AUTOMATES THE TASKS YOU WOULD USUALLY DO ON YOUR OWN. THESE INCLUDE FETCHING INFORMATION, BOOKING A CAB, MAKING RESERVATIONS, FIXING APPOINTMENTS, OR TALKING TO A CUSTOMER CENTER EXECUTIVE. THE MOST COMMON OF ALL BOTS IS THE CHABOT, WHICH MIMICS OR SIMULATES CONVERSATION USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE LIKE SIRI, GOOGLE ALIO, CN, TO NAME A FEW. SIMILARLY, BLAZE BOT IS LIKE A BUDDY THAT WOULD KEEP TRACK OF WHAT IS TRENDING AND COULD LET YOU KNOW ABOUT THE THINGS YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN. What is Blaze and how does it operates?
Blaze is an AI-based conversational bot that scours the web for the hottest news, videos and tweets and helps you discover more. Think of it as your personal, intelligent “news buddy”.
It messages you, just like a friend - through a chat message on messenger. Like a friend, the bot gets to know you and shares information and topics you might be interested in, but also shares fresh, new content that you would normally not discover. It provides a free bot for every publisher, which is fully configurable. So, if you consider a media company, let’s say “My Mobile”, for example. Blaze delivers *exclusively * “My Mobile” news to users of the bot. Our bot will be better and more intelligent than anything they could ever build, because we know the topics that a user may be interested in across other media bots that we power.
To be clear, the news itself is not delivered by the bot - the bot acts like a Google News-like index that directs users to the My Mobile website with news articles, which are then monetized exclusively by My Mobile.
So media companies don’t have to build their own Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural language etc. - all they have to do is promote their bot. They don’t even have to pay us.
What could be the minimal requirements of having this technology in a smartphone?
A smartphone just need to have a Facebook messenger on it and one can then easily access news through Blaze by simply going to blaze.im and adding to messenger.
What is the status of this technology and where this could be found?
One can visit blaze.im and click on the URL to add Blaze to messenger, following which you can start a conversation with the bot. Once you are in, the bot starts by providing you 4 options: Buzz, News, Videos & Surprise me!
Buzz: delivers links to the articles that consumers are searching for tweeting etc. and are highly contextual based on the time of the year and current events. It has an entertainment element to it, but it is not exclusively restrained to entertainment.
News: deliver you links to the best news, curated from the safest news sources. We start off with delivering you top stories, but then you can drill down to business, entertainment, cricket and Bollywood.
Videos: deliver you links to the hottest videos from around the world that are making waves in India. These could include viral videos, hot trailers or really inspirational social videos.
Surprise me!: Alleviates you from having to decide anything. It decides between Buzz, News and Videos on its own.
Finally we also have the option to “teleport” yourself to a different country - from where we will link to an entirely different list of content that is trending.
How does it replace various apps in a smartphone?
Today, the average user downloads zero apps per month. If you are lucky enough that your app is downloaded, after one month just 5% of the users that downloaded your app are using it. If you consider a cost-per-install of say $1.24 (the global average cost), that means you spend ~$25 for a user that sticks on beyond a month and at least $100 for a user that uses the app 3 months after download - and we are not talking about revenue here, much less profit. It is no wonder that only 0.1% of all apps have more than 50,000 installs and the usage numbers on those apps are also a lot lower. In fact, nearly 80% of a user’s time is spent on his 3 favorite apps. The important thing is why does this happen? Why does the future of bots look bright?
Blaze is an offering that is not an app. It doesn’t require a download. It really is a news buddy. It messages you, just like a friend - through a chat message on messenger. Like a friend, the bot gets to know you and shares information and topics you might be interested in, but also shares fresh, new content that you would normally not discover. This eases out space in one’s device as it might just replace bunch of applications in a device and cater to the audience with all the information at one place.
