Love them or hate them, you cannot ignore them. Selfies have become a part of popular culture. From students to prime ministers, everyone is taking them. And these tips will make your selfies stand out.
1- The most important element in taking selfies, is to use a front-facing camera of your smartphone. People often use the rear camera to take self-portraits. Just don’t! One should always use the front camera as it has been optimised to do just that and often has appropriate editing options as well.
2- Most smartphones these days offer an editing tool within the camera app to help achieve the best composed shots. And if your phone doesn’t have that feature built-in, there are plenty of apps for that: try Photo Editor by Aviary
3- When taking selfies, make sure to choose a clear, good background. Always check your surroundings so you have an appropriate background: look for dark colored walls, or any place without any clutter.
4- A lot of people do not consider the angle, and end up taking nightmarish self-portraits. To avoid this, make sure you work out all your different angles and sides. Some selfie experts say that holding the smartphone above your head and shooting down in a 45 degree angle will get you the best results.
5- Getting the lighting right can make all the difference. Natural light is of course the best. If you are indoors, find a window to stand in front of and let the sunlight hit your face.
6- When taking a selfie, use the timer feature of your camera app. Simply hold your camera up and angle it to a desired position before enabling the timer. A use of timer will eliminate shakiness and your photos are less likely to be blurred.
7- The key to every great selfie is picking the right filter. You should know the filter for your skin tone. But on the other hand, if you’re not confident, ask yourself whether that’s really necessary. You can always get a great selfie without tweaking contrast and saturation.
One of the best ways to take a good selfie is to look at your picture, don’t just look at the lens. In doing so, you will certainly get a bright and refreshing look. And yes, always try to be creative with your self-portraits.
