Ride-hailing app Uber has unveiled its web version, dubbed the m.uber.com, specifically for the Indian users, at its ‘Building for India’ event.
The new website, meant for basic smartphone users, allows users to book a cab simply by signing up for an Uber account and works similar to the Uber app.
Additionally, the company is now home to various new features. Firstly, there is the new Call to ride feature which allows users to book a ride via a phone call. This feature will come handy for users with feature phones or areas with low internet connectivity.
In order to use the feature, the users will be required to call on a single nationwide number and enter a numeric code displayed on signage to help Uber detect the users’ location. Following this, users will get a text message once the cab is booked with the necessary details. The Call to Ride feature is presently under a pilot program in Pune.
Another soon-to-launch feature is the Offline Search one which will allow users to book a cab when internet connectivity is poor, simply by detecting the top points of interest in the city.
Lastly, Uber now as the Request for Guest feature which lets users book a cab for someone else. This can be done by selecting the drop and pickup location and selecting the person riding. Once this gets done, the rider will receive all the required information in the form of an SMS, and both the rider and the driver will be able to contact each other using masked numbers for privacy. This feature will too, begin rolling out in a few weeks.
