If you have noted the smartphone market in India is full of smartphones of Xiaomi especially with the company’s Note series which is growing with a great speed. The recent launch of Note series witnessed the release of Note 4 which did impress the users but here in this review we are not going to talk about the Note series smartphones. As a user if you are fully occupied and thinking that the Xiaomi is only promoting and busy with the Note series smartphones then you have to change your mindset because despite the limelight and focus gained by the Note series, there is Mi A1 which is standing out of the box and aimed at delivering powerful performance and is no less than other smartphones of the price range in which the new Mi A1 is available. This smartphone also comes bundled with Android One which is a kind of Google re-entry into a mid-range smartphone in India. In our review we will be talking about the Gold variant of the Xiaomi Mi A1.

The new Mi A1 is an attractive phone and it is very comfortable in hand. The attractiveness is enhanced with all metal body and there is 7.3 mm side profile views as well. There is something new in the new Mi A1 which is possessing dual pyrolytic graphite sheets which should radiate heat quickly and decrease temperatures by 2 degrees. At the right side the phone is featuring two volume rockers and the power button. The bottom of the device is having USB Type-C port, a speaker grille and 3.5mm audio jack. At the left side there is the hybrid dual SIM tray. The back of the device is having the fingerprint sensor and the dual rear cameras which are accompanied by a two tone flash. The device is easy to hold and is light as well. It is easily operatable with just one hand. There is an Infrared emitter on the Mi A1 as well.

The new Mi A1 is featuring 5.5 inch LTPS display with a full HD and the resolution of 1080x1920 pixel and a pixel density of 403 ppi. The device is attracting the users with its display as well. The slim edges are giving extra space for you to enjoy any game or while playing any multimedia. The device is having hybrid SIM slot which means either you can choose two SIMs at a same time or one SIM and one microSD card.

The main attraction of the Mi A1 is the camera possessed by it. It is featuring two 12 megapixel camera, one with a wide angle lens and f/2.2 aperture, and other with a telephoto lens and f/2.6 aperture. The rear camera is for sure to deliver great images whether it is light condition or dark condition. The front camera is of 5 megapixel but the selfies taken with selfie camera are no lesser than the selfies taken by mobiles with higher megapixel capacity. There are beautification modes as well, so you can choose what type of effect you want in your selfies. Autofocusing on the Mi A1 is quick, and is mostly accurate even in different light conditions. Phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and face detection help the camera lock focus in no time. The cameras won’t disappoint the users if they love great picture quality in the price range of the devices in which the Mi A1 is belonging.

Talking about the processor the Xiaomi Mi A1 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor along with Adreno 506 GPU. The SoC is clocked 2Ghz and is coupled with 4GB RAM which is enhancing the performance of the device. There is no issue while handling any task or playing any game. The device seems to be stable while using any application, there is little heating observed while playing high graphic games. The storage is no issue with Mi A1 because it is giving you storage capacity of 64GB which is enough to store anything which you want to save be it media, applications or games. The storage can further be expanded with the help of microSD card as well. The new Mi A1 is running on the most latest upgrade of the Android operating system which is Android 7.1.2 which you are not going to find in most of the smartphones even in those with higher price range. Compared to Android 7.1.1, the newer 7.1.2 is an incremental update with bug fixes. Popular Nougat features on the device include split-screen multitasking that allows users to work on two apps simultaneously; a shortcut to swap between the most recently used apps by double-tapping the Overview button and app shortcuts which let you launch actions within supported apps by long-pressing their icons on the home screen. The Quick Settings toggles have received a refresh. You can swipe downwards on the fingerprint sensor to pull down the notifications shade, and launch the camera app by double-pressing the power button, which is handy for quick shots. Finally, there is support for GIFs within the keyboard.

The new Mi A1 is having non removable battery of 3,080mAh which is powerful enough to last for the day. Overall, the Mi A1 is out of the box device which is powerful and will stand up to the expectations of the users.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 comes bundled with good features such as dual rear camera and Stock Android in less than 15K along with an able processor. The smartphone is coupled with Android One, which is making its comeback into a mid-range smartphone for the first time in India. The smartphone definitely is going to sell like hot cakes in town but there are options available such as Honor 9i.
