Amazon has officially introduced Alexa Plus, a generative AI-powered upgrade to its virtual assistant. Announced at a New York City event, the new Alexa is designed to be more conversational and capable of remembering past interactions for a more personalized experience. 

Amazon executives including the Head of Amazon’s Devices and Services Division Panos Panay showcased the upgraded system through a series of live demos. Alexa Plus comes with new “agentic” abilities including real-time Uber and OpenTable reservations, voice-to-text transcriptions, more detailed entertainment queries and enhanced personalisation options. • More natural conversations: It remembers past interactions making it easier to continue a conversation or complete tasks.

• Voice-controlled Routines: Users can now create custom Routines with voice commands, a feature previously available only in the Alexa app.
• Multi-room audio control: Move music across different rooms with simple commands like “Play music upstairs” or “Don’t wake the baby”.
• Scene jumping on Prime Video: Jump to specific scenes in movies and shows using voice commands.
• Ring camera integration: When linked with a Ring subscription, Alexa Plus can provide summaries of detected events on Echo Show devices.
• Document extraction and calendar integration: It can scan emails, manuals and study materials, then add relevant events to your calendar.
