Apple is setting the stage for the highly anticipated annual iPhone launch event in September.
Though officially not confirmed, rumours suggest the Apple event is scheduled for September 10.
The Cupertino Giant will likely introduce the iPhone 16 series, new AirPods, updated Apple Watch models, and possibly more during the event.
While we wait for more updates on the event, there is a whole set of older Apple products that are likely to disappear from Apple’s shelves after the upcoming launch.
Let’s take a look at the Apple products that may phase out soon.
iPhone 15 Pro & iPhone 15 Pro Max
If we look at the last few years how Apple has managed its launch, the long history of discontinuing flagship iPhones just a year after their release seems like a tradition.
There is no reason to believe that Apple might not follow the same pattern this time.
So, the iPhone 15 Pro series is expected to follow the tradition.
As the first iPhones with titanium bodies and the last with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens, these models might soon be replaced by the iPhone 16 Pro lineup.
As of now, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro is rumoured to have larger displays.
iPhone 14 Plus
Apple previously introduced iPhone 12 mini and 13 minis to a lacklustre response.
Post that iPhone 14 Plus was Apple’s entry-level large iPhone.
It comes with a 6.7-inch display and long battery life.
With the iPhone 14 Plus, Apple also brought back the “Plus” branding, years after the iPhone 8 Plus was released in 2017.
However, after the launch of the upcoming iPhone 16 series, Apple will most likely keep the iPhone 14 in its portfolio at a lower price point.
iPhone 13
Launched in 2021, the iPhone 13 was introduced with various upgrades.
It came with a longer battery life and a new camera system.
The phone is now completing 3 years and is the oldest iPhone on Apple’s website.
Over the years, the iPhone 13 went through several price cuts following every new iPhone launch.
It started at approximately ₹70,000 in India and is now retailing at around ₹50,000.
Now post iPhone 16 series launch, Apple is likely to iPhone 14 as the entry-level iPhone. This indicates that the iPhone 13 may also soon be phased out.
Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2
New versions of all three Apple Watch models are expected next month.
The Series 10 is rumoured to have larger displays, thinner casing, and a new chipset.
For Ultra 3, we can expect minor upgrades this year.
On the other hand, the SE 3 is expected to get a plastic casing at a more pocket-friendly price.
It is extremely likely that Apple will discontinue the current Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2 models.
AirPods 2 and AirPods 3
Apple introduced AirPods 2 in 2019.
It was Apple’s entry-level AirPods model.
The brand later launched AirPods 3 in 2021 with Spatial Audio, better audio quality, and other features.
Now Apple is expected to launch two new versions of the AirPods 4, an entry-level model and a mid-tier model.
Both will likely replace AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 respectively.
The upcoming mid-range model is expected to include noise cancellation.
iPad mini 6 and iPad 10
Rumours suggest that the iPad mini 6 and iPad 10 will get upgraded versions in the upcoming event.
Certain reports suggest that the iPad 10 may be enlisted at a reduced price of around ₹30,000 before Apple launches the next-in-line iPad 11.
However, these reports are purely speculative.
Meanwhile, the iPad mini will most likely be discontinued after the upcoming launch.
The upcoming iPad model is expected to come with Apple Intelligence support, enhanced storage and Apple Pencil Pro support.
As Apple gears up for its next big product launch, these older models may soon become a thing of the past.
