Apple is gearing up to release two new variants of AirPods 4 next month.

These new models are expected to replace the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 offering consumers both an entry-level and a mid-tier AirPods option.

The update revealed in his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg Apple reporter Mark Gurman believes the entry-level AirPods 4 will take the place of the current AirPods 2.

At the same time, the mid-tier model is set to replace the AirPods 3.

Both upcoming models are expected to sport similar designs that we have previously seen in AirPods.

However, there is a significant difference in key features you can expect. The report says the mid-tier version will include active noise cancellation.

This same feature, however, will not be available in the entry-level option.

It’s important to note that the mid-tier AirPods 4 should not be confused with the upcoming AirPods Pro 3.

According to Gurman,  AirPods Pro 3 would not be updated until a later date.

Specific details about the new models are still under wraps.

However, the upgrades are expected to align with Apple’s trend of improving their wireless headphones.

The AirPods 2, which have been available since early 2019, have served as a budget-friendly entry point into the world of wireless headphones.

These currently are retailing for under ₹10,990.

Despite lacking modern features, they have remained popular due to their affordability.

On the other hand, the AirPods 3, introduced in October 2021, brought several enhancements such as Spatial Audio, a new force sensor, and Apple Watch charging compatibility.

Both new versions of AirPods 4 are anticipated to transition to USB-C charging.

The entry-level model most likely does not have wireless charging, while the mid-tier version is expected to include it.

Fortunately, an overhaul remains on track. The new [AirPods] models will both look similar, but the mid-tier one will get active noise cancellation for the first time. Everything appears to still be a go for this fall, with a third-generation version of the AirPods Pro not coming until later. Mark Gurman

This model focuses on simple features including passive noise reduction to help minimize background noise.

There would not be active noise cancelling available in this model. Being entry-level, it would not support wireless charging as well.

Upcoming Mid-tier AirPods 4 – What We Know So Far

Gurman reiterated his previous reporting by saying that Apple intends to release two versions at different price points, replacing the current second-generation and third-generation models.

This version of AirPod 4 is designed for users seeking more advanced capabilities.

The AirPods 4 version is set to replace the AirPods 3.

This version is expected to come with multiple key upgrades including wireless charging for added convenience.

It will also boast active noise cancellation, making it easier to enjoy music, podcasts, or calls in noisy environments.

With a semi-in-ear design that further reduces ambient noise, the Enhanced Edition is perfect for those who want a richer audio experience.
