Confirmed: Xbox Exclusive “Avowed” Delayed to 2025

Highlight

  • Xbox’s most exciting game – Avowed – has been delayed to 2025.
  • Fans note 2025 release is disappointing but will benefit developerObsidian Entertainment.
  • The company confirmed the delay is “to give players’ backlogs some breathing room.”

The news circulating in the gaming community stands true.

Xbox’s most exciting action role-playing game Avowed – will now release in 2025 and not in 2024 missing the schedule.

But it is probably a good division for everyone involved.

In a post on X (previously Twitter) this Friday, Xbox confirmed that Avowed was being delayed to February 18, 2025, while showcasing its upcoming releases.

The company clarified that it wishes “to give players’ backlogs some breathing room” before launching the new game.

Xbox head Phil Spencer chimed in, adding, “We’re proud of what the Obsidian team have accomplished with Avowed and want to make sure they have the best launch possible. We look forward to you enjoying it along with the rest of our lineup of games and updates coming this year and beyond.”

The reports of Avowed’s delay were hinted a day before on X (previously Twitter) by user @Wario64.

According to the media report shared in support of the claim, Avowed is actually “in good shape,” with the reason for the delays is the crowded status of the Xbox Game Pass slate in late 2024.

The company confirmed the delay is “to give players’ backlogs some breathing room.”

“I understand Avowed is in good shape, this is more a matter of wanting to give the game breathing room outside of a very busy period for Xbox Game Pass,” writes Warren in the latest entry of his Notepad newsletter.

Xbox’s subscription service and its game library are key to their business model, so it’s not too surprising they might shift release dates to fit Game Pass scheduling better.

Originally, it looked like “Avowed” might release in November.

A reported leak from Obsidian hinted at a November 12 release.

But considering all the games coming out, it might have gotten lost in the crowd.

This seems like the right move, especially with how busy the rest of the year is for new game releases.

Xbox Game Studios alone has eight more games and a Starfield expansion coming before the year ends.

October will see the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as a day-one Xbox Game Pass game, a big win for the service. November is already packed with Microsoft Flight Simulator and the delayed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

Plus, we’re getting games like Astro Bot, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
