The viral post.A Delhi-based woman recently recounted a harrowing experience during an Ola cab ride accusing the company of serious safety lapses. The claims were made in a LinkedIn post that has since gone viral.
Shazia A is a senior manager at Genpact and has come forward to share her ordeal from December 20 when her cab ride to Gurugram took a terrifying turn. According to Shazia, the driver stopped the cab for strangers and the SOS button on the Ola app failed to work.
“I had a nightmarish experience with OLA CAB yesterday on my way to Gurgaon. Sharing this incident hoping to raise awareness about the safety concerns that passengers especially women might encounter while using these cab services,” she wrote in her post.
Shazia’s ride began at 1:30 PM but things took an unsettling turn after crossing the toll. She noticed the driver slowing down without explanation. “When I asked why, he didn’t respond,” she said.
The situation escalated outside the National Media Centre, where traffic was sparse. Two men appeared ahead of the cab, signalling the driver to stop. To her shock, the driver complied. Soon, two more men on bikes joined them creating a tense and frightening scene.
“The driver mentioned, ‘Meri kist pending hai’ (my instalment is due), which left me terrified,” Shazia recounted. “I responded that his personal matters were not my concern and insisted he continue the trip. Instead, the men began to approach the cab and the driver appeared complicit in their actions.”
Fearing for her safety, Shazia made a split-second decision to escape. “Feeling unsafe, I opened the right-side door and ran for my life. It was an extremely traumatic experience, and I cannot emphasize enough how terrified I felt,” she shared.
Adding to her distress, the SOS feature on the Ola app failed during the incident. Despite filing a complaint, Shazia claimed she received no response from the company even 24 hours later.
“Passenger safety is not just a feature—it’s a fundamental responsibility. OLA CABS/Bhavish Aggarwal – I urge you to respond to this issue immediately and take strict action to ensure passenger safety is never compromised,” she concluded.
As of now, Ola has not issued a response to the viral post.
Meanwhile, the post has drawn widespread attention with LinkedIn users calling for stricter safety protocols and accountability from ride-hailing companies.
