Twitter 2.0 Expectations

While Elon Musk’s reputation as a billionaire entrepreneur and erstwhile Tesla owner are well known, his takeover of social media giant Twitter has met with mixed reactions from all corners where some are happy and some think he is the worst thing to happen to the platform.

The road hasn’t been easy for the Tesla CEO as he has undergone a year long legal battle with Twitter as he had earlier proposed to purchase the platform for $44 billion only to walk out on the deal later, leaving no choice for Twitter owners but to take the case to court.

Musk took over as Twitter CEO on October 28, 2022 and no sooner had he become the boss that he started issuing a whip to all employees, firing those whom he saw as lazy and asking others to work for 40 hours a week or risk similar consequences.

In a recently held speech with the company, Musk revealed his plans for Twitter 2.0 through different slides where he envisioned all the features that he had planned for the platform, along with the company statistics since he became CEO.

According to the statistics, the Twitter sign-ups have reached an all-time high until November 16, 2022, which is 2 million per day since the second week of the month and is a 66% increase over the same period in 2021.

The slides further revealed that hate speech had lowered considerably on Twitter, while fake accounts had spiked in the initial stages but they too had come down at a considerable rate, which implies that they were the impersonators that had been reported.

The new features that Musk plans on launching are videos, longer tweets via character limit, payments, encrypted DMs (direct messaging), relaunching blue verification, service advertising, new hiring following mass layoffs and resignations in the company.

Conclusion

While Elon Musk has listed out the features, it remains to be seen as to how he will implement these plans after the massive firing spree he is going through by laying off nearly 3,500 Twitter staff, prompting thousand others to resign in protest.

Given his skills, it is no secret that he can definitely pull off such a challenging task as he has been working 24/7 ever since taking over Twitter Inc. where even though he’s facing public ire, he can definitely work things out given his hardcore reputation of being a tough taskmaster that revolutionized the automobile industry through Tesla Inc.
