Introduction
In January, we will be seeing the 15th edition of the Men’s FIH Hockey. And guess who is again hosting the world cup 2023? The stadiums selected for these matches are the classic and legendary Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar with the seating capacity of 18,000 and ‘newly constructed’ Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, Rourkela debuting with seating capacity of 20,000.
This quadrennial tournament will commence on 13th January (Friday) and we are expecting to see the finals on 29th of January. There are 16 teams taking part in the quest of becoming the ultimate winner of 2023 and collecting the most coveted accolades for hockey. The 15th edition of FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup will kick off on January 13th 2023, with the first match between Argentina and South Africa, at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

In the sparkling opening ceremony of the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, 11th January at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, we saw a stellar performances by many stars and celebrities, including Ranveer Singh, Disha Patani, singer Neeti Mohan, and also K-Pop band BlackSwan. Keenly showcasing the rich culture and heritage of odisha the evening started with the culturally auspicious performance by Odissi dancing legend, Guru Aruna Mohanty’s troop hailing the spirit of the state.

The ceremony just became an exotic and charismatic affair as music composer Pritam and 11 singers sang and presented the official anthem for the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 “Hockey Hai Dil Mera” live to the audience.
Not only this, the anthem was followed by revealing the FIH Men’s World Cup trophy by FIH President Tayyab Ikram; Anurag Thakur, Indian Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs; Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Pattnaik; and President of Hockey India, Dilip Tirkey. All the officials had all good and merrier words to say for the world cup, along with conveying great wishes to the teams participating.

The ranking system and the rounds
The ranking system is pretty easy to understand. 3 points for winning the match, 1 point if the match draws, and 0 point on losing the match. FIH decided the Rounds in the 2011 World League.

Stating that no team is exempt in Round 1(including group stage classification round), Some teams are exempted by Round 2 where we see Crossovers, Quarter-finals, and Semi-finals. And Round 3 is the final round. The table for the same is as follows:
