BGMI unban might be coming sooner than we expected if the latest report by News18 is to be believed. The News18report states that the government of India has decided to lift the ban on the popular online multiplayer battle royal game in India for three months. For the uninitiated, the game was banned in the country in July 2022 by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), as per the requests made by MHA. Soon after, the game was removed from Google Play Store and App Store on 28 July, causing a massive uproar in the BGMI fanbase in India. This new BGMI unban report is good news for its fans in the country. Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) may return to India soon, at least temporarily. According to News18 via government sources, BGMI would be available for three months (90 days) testing period, during which authorities will closely "monitor the app to check if it violates India's rules." The app will likely be available without restrictions if authorities suspect no foul play during the testing period. Developed and distributed by South Korea-based Krafton, BGMI got banned in India in July 2022 due to security issues. Before BGMI, Krafton's highly-popular PUBG Mobile also got banned in the country for similar reasons. Around the same time, the government banned several apps from China to protect national security. The new report states that BGMI would not be available to players 24x7 as there might be some time-limit and restrictions on hours of playing. The company has reportedly told the government that there would be "no blood" in the action game, or at least the colour might be changed. Interestingly, Krafton already changed the colour of blood to green in BGMI after the PUBG Mobile ban. It remains unclear how the blood will be depicted in BGMI if the ban gets lifted. The report points out. A "top-level official" told the publication that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) would "soon issue an order to unblock the app from e-stores." In March, a report also suggested BGMI's potential return under similar strict restrictions. The government has also reportedly asked the developers to tweak the game settings and UI (user interface) to prevent smartphone and gaming addiction. This is likely due to a murder case in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, where a teenager allegedly shot his mother dead after she stopped him from playing BGMI. Similarly, Krafton has also told India Today Tech that the company is working with the government to bring BGMI back to India. The company still views India as a potential market. Krafton has launched a bunch of smartphones and PC games in the country even after BGMI and PUBG ban. In April, independent studio RisingWings under Krafton launched Defense Derby in India, which is quite different from the battle royale-style BGMI. Before that, the company launched Road to Valor Empires developed by Dreamotion and Callisto Protocol for PCs. Despite PUBG and BGMI ban in India, battle royale-style mobile games are still polular in the country as there have been some popular alternatives. Currently, many fans are turning to Call of Duty Mobile following Garena Free Fire ban and the shut down of Apex Legends Mobile. BGMI is Temporarily Coming Back to India for 90 Days Before it got banned in July 2022, Krafton announced that Battleground Mobile India had surpassed 100 million registered users in India. Notably, India was one of the biggest markets for the online multiplayer battle royale game. Therefore, when it was banned due to suspicious activities, there was a huge uproar among esports enthusiasts and fans of the game. Krafton even put in massive efforts to resume services in India but has yet to be successful. The game was removed from the Play Store and App Store in late July. It seems that Krafton never gave up on its efforts to make a comeback had also triggered crimes, including murders, across the country. According to a top-level official, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will soon issue an order to unblock the app from e-stores. Sources also said the competent authority in Ministry of Home Affairs has accorded conditional approval to unblock BGMI for analysis and re-evaluation. During this period, authorities will monitor the app to check if it violates India’s rules. In case of any adverse activities, the app will see a ban again, the senior official told Industry sources. According to sources, players will not be able to engage with the game 24×7 as there will be a time limit and restrictions on hours of playing. In the last edition, there was a choice to change the colour of blood from red to blue and green during firing but now, the change will be the default setting. Ans) In August, News18 had revealed that it was a report by a central intelligence agency and communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs to MeitY that triggered a ban on the popular battle royale game. The report talked about violations that can create cyber threats by harvesting user data for profiling to carry out targeted cyber-attacks on Indian users. It also talked about the App’s various issues but most pertinent among them was the fact that it was communicating with servers directly or indirectly located in China. Sources also confirmed that other apps were also used which have “re-branded" are also communicating with servers in China . The government of India has decided to temporarily lift the ban on BGMI for three months, according to a report by News18. The publication states that this information came from a top-level MeitY official. This will however be more of a testbed for BGMI in India as the game will be under analysis and monitoring during the three-month period. Also, if the app is found violating any of the country's rules then it will be banned again. BGMI is said to come back with more changes and adjustments. Rumours suggest that there will be a time limit and restrictions on the number of hours one can play the game. Krafton also plans to reduce violent graphics in the game by changing the colour of blood in the game. When BGMI was available in India, players could change the colour of blood to red and green, but now that's going to be set by default. There's still no official announcement from Krafton or the centre on the comeback of BGMI in India and such reports have been floating around for months. But even with its ban lifted, it's interesting to see how BGMI manages to continue operating in India considering the radar it will be under and conditions it would have to agree on. BGMI was one of the most popular battle royale games in India with over 100 million users here. 2) What is BGMI Unban Date 2023? Ans) As mentioned earlier, the title will go through several changes to abide by the rules of India. Previously, we mentioned that there would be no blood shown in the game. Gamers would not be able to play the game 24×7. KRAFTON also assured such things to the government and hence, the return of the title is looking imminent. Meanwhile, there are no mentions of any specific dates. Hence, we can share any exact unban dates if BGMI, However, looking at the reports, we can expect the title to come back very soon. The Indian government suspended the title when they found the its server interacting with Chinese servers. During that time, there were numerous reports claiming the app triggering crimes, including murders, across the country. 3) What is The rumour mill around the return of BGMI? Ans) Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) remains banned in India since last year. There have been plenty of rumours lately, most of which stem from the comments made by various esports players and content creators. One of the rumours by Nauman Mulla, the co-founder and COO of STAN, outlined that BGMI won't come to the market for next six months. While the rumour mill was certainly churning at full speed, nothing concrete has come out of it, such as a release date, a teaser and let alone the official BGMI unban announcement.
