Google has recently announced a host of new features for Google Chrome users on both iPhones and iPads.
Detailed in a blog post titled “4 new Chrome improvements for iOS”, Google Chrome’s latest feature upgrades include the image/text search option for Google Lens, free-up space options, an easier way of finding better shopping deals and a mini-map on track location.
Here’s a quick overview of all newly announced Google Chrome features.
Search with Google Lens Using Both Images and Text
You’ve probably used Google Lens in Chrome on iOS to search for things using images.
Now, you can make those searches even smarter by adding text along with your images. Just snap a picture or upload one from your gallery and type in a word or two to refine your search.
For example, if you’re looking at a particular style of shoes, add a colour or specific detail you want. You may also see an AI Overview that pulls in the best info from across the web to give you the most helpful results.
To try this, tap the camera icon in the Google Search bar.
Free Up Space by Saving Files and Photos to Google Drive and Photos
Is your iPhone or iPad running low on space? You can now easily clear up storage by saving files and images from Chrome directly to Google Drive or Google Photos. To save a file, just tap on the Google Drive option when saving. It will go straight to a “Saved from Chrome” folder in your Drive.
In case you want to save an image instead, all you have to do is long-press on it, choose “Save in Google Photos,” and you’re all done.
Just make sure you’re signed into your Google account to use this feature.
Find Deals with Shopping Insights
If you’re in the US, Chrome on iOS now has a feature called Shopping Insights to help you find the best deals. While browsing products, you may see a “Good Deal Now” alert in the address bar if there’s useful info available.
Tap it to see things like price history, options for tracking prices, and other buying choices. To make sure you get these updates, sign into Chrome and turn on the “Make Searches and Browsing Better” setting.
This feature is expected to expand to more countries soon.
See a Map with a Single Tap on an Address
You’ll soon be able to view a map of any address you see in Chrome without having to switch to Google Maps.
Just tap the underlined address and a mini-map will open right there in Chrome to show you the location.
This feature is being tested now and will roll out globally over the coming months.
