Google released its second-generation Google Fold phone the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold during the Made by Google event in August 2024. While the phone received mixed reactions, it appears a new exclusive feature called Dual Screen for video calls that can be used on Google Meet. Here’s what we know about the new feature.

The Dual Screen will be a handy new feature that will allow users to show video from both your front and rear cameras at the same time during a call.

This will make it possible for Pixel 9 Pro Fold users to share both yourself and your surroundings at the same time with their caller.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold users would be able to enable the Dual Screen feature after starting a call by tapping a new icon that appears in the controls.

Once the feature is activated, the video feed will split into two with one half showing you and the other half displaying what’s in front of you. The person on the other side of the call will be able to see two displays on one screen from both the front and back cameras.

There’s also a Dual Display option, which can be turned off if you don’t want both feeds active.

The Dual Screen feature could be useful for both personal and official meetings when multiple views need to be shared.

It appears as of now this feature is exclusive to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold phone. However, certain reports suggest that it is unlikely to stay that way for long.

Google’s other foldable phone – the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would also be able to support the feature.

Reports also suggest that Google probably won’t limit such a useful feature to its own devices for long. This could be true with increased scrutiny from the EU as it is cracking down on tech giants giving their devices advantages in services.

Other than this exclusive feature for Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google Meet is also working on significantly revamping the service and adding a host of helpful add-ons.

The team recently rolled out the Meet Add-ons SDK for the web version of the app. This feature enables third-party developers to build custom experiences or activities for the video calling app.
