We are still not through with all subsequent updates on iOS 18 and rumours are already circulating about Apple’s next OS update. The reliable Apple news leaker iPhoneSoft has recently shared some interesting details about the next major Apple software update iOS 19.

If the iPhoneSoft recent report is true, every iPhone that currently runs iOS 18 will also be eligible for iOS 19. This includes models as old as the iPhone XS and XR, which were first released in 2018.

However, certain features might remain exclusive to newer devices just like we have seen with previous updates.

The report also reveals that the 7th-generation iPad powered by the A10 chip and launched in 2019 is not getting iPadOS 19.

This raises the minimum hardware requirement for iPadOS to devices with the A12 chip.

However, the good news is that all other iPads currently supported will continue receiving updates for another year.

iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 are expected to be unveiled in June 2025 during Apple’s developer conference, with a public release likely in September 2025. These updates will remain the latest until September 2026.

Details on the features coming with iOS 19 are still currently very limited. The last we have heard was from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who hinted that Apple’s focus on perfecting iOS 18 features may have delayed progress on iOS 19.

Now, iPhoneSoft also hints that iOS 19 might be a smaller update in terms of new additions. It speculates that many of the upcoming features could depend on Apple Intelligence, Apple’s AI framework, which might make some of the features inaccessible on older hardware.

We also have to keep in mind that several key features promised for iOS 18 haven’t even been rolled out yet including Priority Notifications on the lock screen, Siri’s on-screen awareness, App Intents-powered actions and personal context understanding. All this raises concerns about Apple’s plan and whether these delayed features could affect the scope of iOS 19.
