We have been hearing about the foldable iPhone for a while now and all recent reports suggest Apple is preparing to launch its first foldable iPhone in 2026. Now popular analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that it will be a premium, high-end device with a hefty price tag.
Kuo recently shared a detailed post titled “Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Predictions: Market Positioning, Hardware Specs, Development Schedule, and Shipment Estimates.” Here’s a quick roundup of Kuo’s latest prediction.
Apple’s Foldable iPhone – What to Expect?
According to Kuo, the future foldable iPhone is expected to cost well over $2000, making it one of the most expensive iPhones ever. However, Apple is packing in some top-tier hardware to justify the price.
One of the biggest highlights will be the display, which is said to be completely crease-free when folded, a feature that sets it apart from most existing foldables. The device will also be ultra-thin, measuring just 4.5mm when unfolded and 9.5mm when folded.
While not the thinnest foldable ever, it’s significantly slimmer than many of today’s popular models. Apple is reportedly using a stainless steel and titanium alloy hinge, ensuring durability and a sleek design.
Kuo further predicts that Apple will bring back Touch ID, integrating it into a capacitive side button, similar to the iPad Air. This would make it the first foldable iPhone without a home button to feature fingerprint recognition instead of Face ID.
The foldable iPhone is expected to follow a book-style design, featuring a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen. When unfolded, the screen size would be similar to that of an iPad mini. In terms of cameras, the device is rumoured to have a front-facing camera that works in both folded and unfolded modes and a dual-lens rear camera setup.
Apple is expected to finalise the design soon, with mass production beginning in late 2025. Due to the complexity of manufacturing, only 3 to 5 million units are likely to be available in 2026. Sales could reach 20 million by 2027, factoring in a second-generation model that is expected to arrive in the latter half of that year.
In addition to the foldable iPhone, Apple is also believed to be working on a foldable MacBook or iPad with an 18-inch display using the same invisible crease technology.
