TSC Printronix Auto ID launches Alpha-30L, 40L mobile printers in India

0

TSC Printronix Auto ID, a global leader in barcode label printing solutions, has announced the launch of the new Alpha-30L and Alpha-40L mobile printers, expanding the mobile printer line-up offering advanced productivity and management feature for a premium mobile printing experience.

Built for high performance and durability, the new mobile barcode label printers are user-friendly, heavy-duty and drop-resistant. The high-quality printers were designed to be rugged for on-the-go printing in the most demanding environments. The Alpha-30L and Alpha-40L are IP54 rated without the aid of a protective case for dust and water resistance, reducing added weight and bulk for operational comfort. Both models have been rigorously tested to withstand a 1.0-meter tumble and 1.8-meter drop. Protective cases are available for even further durability to withstand 2.5-meter drop. With their rugged design, the new mobile printers meet military-grade standards for drop and vehicle vibration. Ideal for enterprise professionals on-the-go, the Alpha-30L and Alpha-40L support printing applications for direct store delivery (DSD), manufacturing and retail end-users.

One of the most important features of the newly-launched products is their compatibility with SOTI Connect, an innovative IoT management solution. TSC Printronix Auto ID has been working in partnership with SOTI, a world leader in mobile and IoT device management, to bring Enterprise Mobility Management to barcode label printers. These are the first mobile printers released by TSC with SOTI Connect remote management capabilities. The new mobile printers with SOTI Connect usher in unprecedented levels of productivity for efficient mobile printing and greater visibility into real-time data on the health and performance of the devices.

“We’re very excited about these printers helping to round out our total mobile printer family. As the sixth and seventh models in our portfolio, we now have more printers to fit more mobile printing solutions than ever before,” said David Lundeen, VP of Marketing at TSC Printronix Auto ID.

The new mobile printers feature a smart battery management system. The smart batteries within the mobile printer can report the state of battery capacity, charge and history of charge cycles. These details can be reported and managed from any remote access point using SOTI Connect, as well as TSC very own remote management tool TSC Console. Paired together, these two management systems allow users to respond quickly and keep the operations running smoothly and ensure little to no downtime.

“These mobile printers are two of the iconic mobile printers we have ever launched. They have more features, more communication abilities, and more integration tools then we have offered before,” added Lundeen.

Seamless and reliable wireless connection is crucial for mobile devices. With the Apple-certified MFi Bluetooth 5.0 connection and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi fast roaming features, the Alpha-30L and Alpha-40L not only provide reliable and seamless communication with users’ devices, they also securely print labels wherever they are needed. The Alpha-30L and Alpha-40L perform very well seamlessly moving from one access point to another. For many printer companies, this is the most difficult function for any mobile printer to accomplish.

The new mobile printers are also equipped with NFC tap-to-pair for easy connectivity, so users can securely print labels wherever they need them. The user can simply touch the mobile printer to another NFC equipped device, and the two will automatically pair.

Why we need to take data privacy seriously

0

The transformative potential of the digital economy to improve lives in India is seemingly limitless at this time. The amalgamation of smartphone proliferation and rapidly increasing data usage is generating a significant quantum of unguarded and uncontrolled personal data. Technology is also opening vulnerabilities to harms, as a data economy, reams of personally identifiable information (PII) are collected, stored, and shared. The COVID-19 outbreak has further added the data concerns on the economies worldwide. Not only the sudden shift to the work-from-home model is raising privacy concerns and security issues but also emphasizing the key challenges being faced related to data protection and compliance with regulations.

In response, data regulation in India is evolving rapidly, and data protection, inclusion, and privacy have become major public policy concerns. The increasing number of cyberattacks and data breaches in the past few months have proven that organizations across the sectors are vulnerable and need to act soon. India itself has recorded the highest number of data breaches along with the US and the Middle East. Clearly, India needs to take data privacy seriously and step up its cybersecurity measures.

Rapid Digitization – Rapid cyberattacks on the rise:

Newer technology adoption and automation by enterprises or authorities also mean opening up to cyberwarfare. It calls for upgrading your workforce for cyber resiliency. With COVID-19, a large volume of any workforce is already working from home, with unmanaged laptops, routers, and printers. Hackers can easily manipulate the VPNs where data can be stolen and weaponized against the companies. The current situation clearly underlines the need for endpoint security in business processes to mitigate the risks.

Other than this, India currently stands at the second position, for growing internet users, with consistent digital and data growth, which makes it essential to be equipped with stringent cybersecurity and data privacy guidelines. Any data breach or attack shall cause long term reputation damage as well as the loss of competitive advantage with financial loss, some of the essential points to be considered.

“India currently stands at the second position, for growing internet users, with consistent digital and data growth, which makes it essential to be equipped with stringent cybersecurity and data privacy guidelines. Any data breach or attack shall cause long term reputation damage as well as the loss of competitive advantage with financial loss, some of the essential points to be considered”

Cost of data breaches and leaks:

What’s essential for businesses is to understand the risks and costs that shall be at stake. Generally, the root cause of malicious attacks is an outsider, but organizations need to be vigilant for insider threats too, that can cause data leaks or theft. Currently, in India, BFSI, Healthcare, and Pharma have been the most vulnerable. With the emergence of new-age technologies – IoT, ML, and AI, the sectors are further introduced to several threats with the need for active security and monitoring. India’s digital economy is expected to grow to 20% by 2024, which means the volume of data shall grow at an unprecedented level. The rising sensitive data like credit card numbers, PII, data stored on the cloud, etc with several connected devices, creates the need for a strong data security policy in place.

The 2020 Cost of Insider Threats Global Report from Ponemon Institute reveals a worrying trend in the rise of insider threats both in terms of overall cost and number of incidents. According to the study, the number of cybersecurity incidents caused by insiders increased by 47% since 2018. At the same time, the cost of these incidents has surged 31%, from $8.76 million in 2018 to $11.45 million in 2020.

The coronavirus pandemic has set the remote work revolution on a fast track, and many companies have been forced to shift to work from home policies and enabling remote staff overnight. Implementing robust technical controls are also an essential step in mitigating insider threats. To efficiently protect all assets, companies shouldn’t rely on a single solution. For a successful insider threat detection strategy, it is advised to combine several security tools that increase visibility and keep track of employee actions. These tools include User Activity Monitoring (UAM), Secure Information and Event Management Systems (SIEM), User Behavior Analytics (UBA) software, and last but not least Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions.

Cybersecurity threats are growing and have gone sophisticated with changing times. Regulatory framework and tightening the guidelines is the need of the hour. In India, the draft of the Data Privacy Bill was submitted to the Government in 2018, and with this India moved one step closer to its first Data Protection law. The bill has designed the framework for both individual data privacy and businesses. The Data Privacy Bill is yet to be passed in the Parliament. In hindsight, regulatory development is the necessary step with growing digital footprints and also sensitive data in the online world.

0

In the first week of January, messaging platform Telegram surpassed 500 million monthly active users. It has continued to grow with 25 million new users joining Telegram in the last 72 hours alone. These new users are from across the globe – 38% from Asia, 27% from Europe, 21% from Latin America and 8% from MENA.

In a recent blog post Telegram’s CEO and Founder Pavel Durov says, “This is a significant increase compared to last year, when 1.5M new users signed up every day. We’ve had surges of downloads before, throughout our 7-year history of protecting user privacy. But this time is different.”

“People no longer want to exchange their privacy for free services. They no longer want to be held hostage by tech monopolies that seem to think they can get away with anything as long as their apps have a critical mass of users.”

“With half a billion active users and accelerating growth, Telegram has become the largest refuge for those seeking a communication platform committed to privacy and security. We take this responsibility very seriously. We won’t let you down.”

“Those of you who have used Telegram for the last several years know we’ve been consistent both when it comes to defending private data and to improving our apps. For those of you who just joined and are wondering what Telegram stands for, I’d like to quote.”

He further added, “You – our users – have been and will always be our only priority. Unlike other popular apps, Telegram doesn’t have shareholders or advertisers to report to. We don’t do deals with marketers, data miners or government agencies. Since the day we launched in August 2013 we haven’t disclosed a single byte of our users’ private data to third parties. We operate this way because we don’t regard Telegram as an organization or an app. For us, Telegram is an idea; it is the idea that everyone on this planet has a right to be free.”

Telegram messenger is focused on its mission to empower common people by providing them the best quality in security, privacy and seamless connectivity while they are communicating, the company said in a statement. With its current growth rate, Telegram is on track to reach billions of users in the near future.

Shopmatic set to turn cash positive in 2021

Riding on an upward trajectory with its recently launched range of tech-enabled solutions for the countries’ SME and entrepreneur sectors, Shopmatic turned EBITDA positive – a year earlier than originally projected.

The company witnessed great demand from customers in Singapore, India, Malaysia and Hong Kong a testament to the digital wave which has been accelerated due to the effects of COVID-19.

In April 2020, when the initial faltering of the economy was felt due to the pandemic, Shopmatic focused its efforts on providing managed solutions through one of its locally acquired companies- CombineSell Pte Ltd. This move was to help move Singapore’s SMEs offline to online by providing them an opportunity to outsource their digital team.

In May 2020, Shopmatic introduced a special solution for grocery/ ‘kirana’ stores to go online – and found great adoption from businesses across India and Singapore.

The company witnessed 80 per cent growth over the July-September quarter in transactions and GMV compared to the previous quarter, another testament to the digital wave, which fuelled ecommerce adoption by SMEs.

In December 2020, Shopmatic launched a whole new range of ecommerce solutions allowing individual entrepreneurs and SMEs to choose from 4 different ways to e-commerce via Shopmatic Chat, Shopmatic Social, Shopmatic Webstore, and Shopmatic Marketplaces.

During the last nine months, Shopmatic as a group has enabled over 5000 Singaporean businesses to digitize and generate significant customer revenues by helping businesses sell through marketplaces, social media commerce and their webstores.

The company is now planning to expand to other countries in South-East Asia this year and is in advanced discussions with several investors, for a Series B fund raise.

Anurag Avula, Co-Founder and CEO, Shopmatic, said, “We are very happy that we were able to close 2020 on a hugely positive note and are now able to step into 2021 with even more aggressive plans to digitize local businesses and entrepreneurs in Singapore, India, Malaysia and Hong Kong. We continue to make significant investments behind key resources to be able to drive our organisation to the next level and expand footprint into new markets in South East Asia. At Shopmatic, our focus is to build a sustainable and profitable business and we are delighted that we’ve been able to reach this significant milestone a year ahead of plan.”

As an e-commerce solutions provider, Shopmatic brings several elements of the e-commerce landscape onto a single platform to help SMEs and individual entrepreneurs take their businesses online.
