“Fliplearn is mapped to all major education boards across India”

What demonetization did to the fintech, COVID-19 has done to the edtech, which has taken the world by storm by becoming one of the biggest beneficiaries of the pandemic. While our conventional education system seems to have taken a back seat due to the closure of schools and colleges since mid-March, the edtech sector has grown at a breakneck pace in 2020. Homegrown Fliplearn is one such platform that has made its presence felt in this time of crisis by offering anytime access, personalized dashboards, board mapped content, 2D & 3D videos, gamified quizzes, tests, and assignments at an affordable price. The award-winning e-learning platform is designed to supplement a child’s learning with the help of fun and interactive digital content that has been mapped to all major education boards in India. Ramesh Kumar Raja talked to Divya Lal, Managing Director, Fliplearn Education, to understand how e-learning is becoming the order of the day and what’s in store for Fliplearn to take online education to the next level in India. Excerpts:

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has given an opportunity for edtech platforms to flourish? How do you look at this trend?

The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital technology in education globally. However, the rate of acceleration could well be among the highest in India where we may look back at this period and realize that digital education advanced years in mere months. The COVID-19 crisis has indeed turned out to be an amazing opportunity for edtech to take strong root and widen its reach in the education sector, which while being cognizant of its benefits, was slow in adoption. The entire education sector in the country sprung into action and had to overnight adapt themselves to using some of the other remote learning techniques. Many online platforms stepped forward with solutions to try and ensure that the impact of school closure was considerably minimized on children’s academics and their future. The edtech platforms like Fliplearn are ensuring that schools make/made a seamless shift to online classes to continue the teaching-learning process from where they left it at the start of the lockdown. Thanks to this, majority of school students will not end up losing their academic year due to the pandemic.

Digital learning is an evolving space and as an industry has changed, and we can observe some key trends that have already begun to emerge. Digital learning has become easier to learn from world-class experts and has become more optimized. Students are getting the right content in the right form. Also, depending on the capability of the students, the students are getting personalized individual attention from the mentor/teachers or experts.

“Simplicity, adaptive, personalized are the core values which Fliplearn platform personifies. Intuitive interface makes it seamless to adapt to the Fliplearn learning platform for the students and teachers community without much of an effort. Comprehensiveness of the 2D/3D content makes it a great learning experience for anyone using Fliplearn”

Is it totally chargeable or also has free-of-cost solutions?

The pandemic has posed major challenges for schools and parents. Fund and resource crunch has been a key challenge. Seeing the challenges many schools are today facing in transforming from physical to digital, we have recently taken a step forward and waived off the subscription fee for Fliplearn Edge, Prime Learning System for schools across India till March 2022. This is our way of ensuring students have uninterrupted access to learning and schools make the digital transition as smoothly as possible. Our Fliplearn Prime app directed to students has also been very aggressively priced to meet the needs of parents looking for quality content and affordable app for their children to supplement their classroom learning.

Do you also provide video conferencing?

Yes, Fliplearn provides a live video conferencing facility for students and teachers.

How do you manage data and ensure its security from any sort of fraud?

Fliplearn is an encrypted platform and schools have complete control over those who wish to log in. Also, a full charge of the admin dashboard is provided and there is tight security. We haven’t had a single breach issue since we have launched. Regular VA and PT scans make the system very robust for a shield against any user coming with malicious intent.

Do you have any expansion plan to make this application accessible to other countries?

Currently, we are focused on building our presence in the Indian market and catering to Indian schools. We have curated content for the Indian K-12 space. However, in the future, we are open to explore in other countries as well.

What’s your comment on the poor internet connectivity that plays spoilsport in many parts of India?

E-learning has emerged as the ‘new normal’ in the current times of pandemic, but it has also brought focus on the many challenges in the Indian education space. Poor internet connectivity is one of the key concerns for the education sector in India. Today, the internet is the main fuel of online learning and with poor connectivity in remote areas, it is difficult for students, schools, parents and teachers to continue learning smoothly.

However, we are seeing efforts from the government in alleviating the situation, by trying to ensure good connectivity in remote areas. It is a long process but we do believe that the pandemic and the urgent need for digital education will certainly push this process forward.

Also, we at Fliplearn are continuously working hard to make our system easily accessible at low internet bandwidth. Any students can access to Fliplearn platform with a 2G network from any remote areas.

“Poor internet connectivity is one of the key concerns for the education sector in India. Today, the internet is the main fuel of online learning and with poor connectivity in remote areas, it is difficult for students, schools, parents and teachers to continue learning smoothly. However, we are seeing efforts from the government in alleviating the situation”

What are your expectations from the imminent 5G telecom network?

We would like to see that the 5G network is made available quickly, not just in tier-I and tier-II cities but also in remote areas where it is most needed and where it will make the biggest difference. Availability of 5G network in remote areas will not only help the education sector but will also help truly bring about India’s digital transformation.

Also, our hope is that it will be made available at an affordable price point and easily accessible so that the lower strata of the society can also be part of the development being brought about in the digital economy.

Infinix Zero 8i Review: Worth Your Consideration

0

Transsion Group-owned Infinix, which mostly plays into the budget and entry-level segment, recently took the Indian market by surprise with the launch of a mid-range handset called Zero 8i. The smartphone packs in some interesting specs such as MediaTek Helio G90T processor, 8GB of RAM, 90Hz refresh rate for the display and 48MP quad-camera setup. Priced at Rs 15,999, the Infinix Zero 8i comes in Silver Diamond and Black Diamond colour variants. Let’s find out more about this device and see how it performs in a price segment that has a number of competitors such as Realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Samsung, to name a few.

Design

The Silver Diamond colour variant that I had for review looks quite decent and appealing to the eyes, although the Infinix Zero 8i is a bit tall having a big display size of 6.85-inch which makes single-handed operation a little difficult. You need to adjust your hand or drag your fingers to reach the top of the screen, otherwise it may fall. However, the plus point is that it’s not a thick and weighty smartphone. Additionally, the Zero 8i has curved edges that make it comfortable to hold in your hand. There is a dual selfie camera setup embedded at the top left corner of the screen. Besides, you’ll find a selfie flash towards the top of the display, which is smartly concealed from sight.

While the left side of the device features a SIM tray, Infinix has placed the fingerprint scanner on the power button on the right side which also sports the volume rocker. While the placement of the fingerprint scanner is convenient, volume buttons located right above it are not too suitable for use. There is nothing on the top of the frame, whereas at the bottom you’ll find a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack and a speaker grille. On the rear side, there’s a diamond-shaped camera module at the center towards the top, which will definitely draw your attention. Since the camera module is somewhat raised, it causes the smartphone to rock when placed on a flat surface. The Silver Diamond colour scheme with a portion of the back sporting a matte finish makes this phone look quite elegant.

Display

The smartphone offers a big 6.85-inch LCD panel with FHD+ (1,080×2,460) resolution. As discussed above, there’s a dual punch-hole at the top for housing the selfie shooters. The company has included a 90Hz panel with a touch sampling rate of 180Hz. Although Infinix claims to offer a 90.1 per cent screen-to-body ratio, it is more around the 86 per cent mark. The handset will offer you a very nice viewing experience with lively colours on display and sensibly good viewing angles. The refresh rate is variable between 60 and 90Hz and the only other display adjustments is a toggle for eye-care mode and adaptive brightness.

Platform

The Infinix Zero 8i is powered by MediaTek Helio G90T 64 bit octa-core processor with 12nm FinFET. Although it’s a bit obsolete, the G90T is definitely not a poor performer by any standard. It’s fairly better for normal day-to-day tasks which you can handle quickly. You’ll find no problem with multi-tasking, opening heavy apps, keeping multiple apps open in the background or browsing internet. Interestingly, the smartphone offers you 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage which I feel is sufficient enough for a normal smartphone user. Infinix claims to offer a liquid cooling system which is said to help when the phone gets heated during graphical tasks. In terms of gaming, it’s not a bad phone. While the normal games like Subway Surfer or Temple Run are quite smooth on this device, heavy-duty games too, go well over here.

In terms of software, the smartphone runs XOS skin which is based on Android 10. The UI seems very familiar. There’s a Game Mode that disables automatic brightness and prevents the phone from switching between your data network and Wi-Fi to prevent issues. It also has a game anti-addiction feature that sends you a notification if you play for too long. There is a parental control setting as well which lets you lock any game after a set amount of time. You’ll find a number of bloatware that comes preinstalled on this device which is quite irritating. As for other features, the fingerprint scanner opens up the phone in an instant and face unlock works well in well-lit conditions.

Cameras

The smartphone flaunts a quad-camera setup with a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2MP depth sensor which the company calls a “bokeh lens”, and a low-light sensor which is referred to as an “AI lens”. You can take macro shots with the Infinix Zero 8i using the ultra-wide-angle camera. On the front, there is a 16MP primary camera and an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera for taking selfies. The camera app is very simple and easy to use.

In terms of performance, daylight shots taken with this smartphone were fairly better. The camera app has distortion correction enabled by default which is useful. Low-light shots were above average. For close-up shots, photos appeared good as is, but magnifying them revealed that the output isn’t very sharp. Portraits were good enough and had good edge detection. Selfies taken with the primary front camera had good detail. The wide-angle selfie camera offers a wider field of view but does not match the primary one in terms of quality. You can take selfie portraits as well. Low-light selfies were good and the selfie light does come in handy when shooting in weakly lit areas.

Battery

The phone carries a 4,500mAh battery backed by an ultra-Power Marathon technology that optimises the power used by the apps and thereby increases 25% battery backup. It comes with an 18W charger in the box with a 33W fast charge support that has the capability of charging the device from 0 to 70% within 30 mins. According to Infinix, the battery can sustain a video playback of 10 hours, up to 32 hours of music playback, 12 hours of web surfing, 49 hours of 4G talk-time and 25 days of standby time. The phone stands tall in this department. You can expect a full day of use from this device on normal to moderate usage.

Conclusion

The smartphone has got a decent design, a great display, and a smooth and capable processor, coupled with 8GB of RAM and last but not least, a heavy-duty battery along with fast charge support. Even the cameras are par excellence for photo enthusiasts. Taken as a whole, the smartphone should be worth your consideration. However, one thing that will disappoint you is the presence of preinstalled bloatware which are quite frustrating sometimes.

Samsung confirms to unveil Galaxy S21 smartphone next week

0

Samsung Electronics has confirmed that new models of its flagship smartphone lineup will be unveiled next week as the South Korean tech giant tries to fend off challenges from Apple and Chinese brands.

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 smartphone series will be introduced at the Galaxy Unpacked online event at 10 am (Eastern Standard Time) on January 14 under the theme of “Welcome to the Everyday Epic.”

“Over the past year, mobile technology has taken center stage in everyday life as people are working remotely and spending more time at home,” Samsung said in its invitation to the event.

Samsung has been holding the event every February to unveil its new smartphones for the first half of the year, but the company decided to introduce them early this time to better cope with challenging market situations.

The company is yet to confirm any specifications on its Galaxy S21 family, but industry sources said it will come with three models — the S21 with a 6.2-inch display, S21 Plus with a 6.7-inch screen, and S21 Ultra with a 6.8-inch panel. The high-end S1 Ultra is reportedly to support the S-Pen stylus that has been used for the Galaxy Note phablets.

The teaser video for the unpacked Galaxy Unpacked event showed that the Galaxy S21 series will have an enhanced rear camera module design and come with a phantom violet color option.
