We have been getting reports regarding the next iPhone SE model for a while now. Looks like it is finally time! Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed a new product launch for February 19 on X (formerly Twitter), sparking speculation about what’s coming.

If Bloomberg’s Apple correspondent Mark Gurman is to believe, the event will likely introduce the next-generation iPhone SE, possibly called the iPhone SE 4.

While Cook in his X’s post didn’t confirm the model name, there have been contradictory reports in the past regarding the moniker of the next SE model. Some reports have suggested that Apple might introduce the new iPhone SE as a part of the iPhone 16 lineup. Popular Tipster Majin Bu previously claimed in a post on X that Apple’s new iPhone SE might be named the iPhone 16E.

This new model is expected to bring major design and hardware upgrades. That said, there is a chance Apple will likely stick with the name “iPhone SE” just as it has with previous models.

In any case, here’s what we know about the upcoming iPhone SE 4 for far.

iPhone SE 4 – What To Expect?

Caption – iPhone SE 4 dummy unit leaked earlier in January 2025. (@SonnyDickson on X)

The iPhone SE 4 is expected to take design cues from the iPhone 14, which means a big departure from previous SE models could be on the cards.

Here’s what to expect based on rumours and speculations making headlines so far –

  • 1-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display with a notch ditching the bottom bezel.
  • Face ID support for the first time in an SE model replacing Touch ID.
  • USB-C port in line with EU regulations.
  • A18 chip (same as the iPhone 16 series) with 8GB RAM enabling Apple Intelligence AI features like smarter Siri, text suggestions and advanced photo editing.
  • Apple’s in-house 5G modem, moving away from Qualcomm.
  • 48MP main camera, a big upgrade from the previous 12MP sensor plus a 12MP front camera. However, it won’t have an ultra-wide lens like flagship iPhones.

iPhone SE 4 – Pricing and Competition (Expected)

The iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch at $499, which will place it in competition with the upcoming Google Pixel 9a set to arrive a month later. Apple is targeting budget-conscious buyers in key markets like the US, Canada, China and India.

Besides the iPhone SE 4, the February 19 event might also include launches for other products like the M4 MacBook Air, M3 iPad Air and iPad 11.

The announcement comes as Oppo prepares to launch the Find N5 on February 20, which is set to be the world’s thinnest book-style foldable. At OnePlus, our core strength and passion lie in setting new benchmarks and challenging the status quo across all product categories. With that in mind, we’ve carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices, and we have made the decision not to release a foldable this year,” the company wrote in the post.

“While this may come as a surprise, we believe this is the right approach for us at this time. As OPPO takes the lead in the foldable segment with the Find N5, we’re committed to developing products that will redefine multiple categories and bring you experiences that are as innovative and exciting as ever, all while aligning closely with our Never Settle mantra,” it also added.

However, it also assured fans and community members that the company is not leaving the foldable market entirely. “our decision to pause on foldable for this generation does not signify a departure from the category. OPPO’s Find N5 demonstrates remarkable advancements in foldable technology, including the use of cutting-edge new materials and more sophisticated engineering. We remain committed to incorporating these breakthroughs into our future products,” Vale G confirms.

Meanwhile, the Oppo Find N5 will get a global release, but it’s not expected to be available in the United States.

After years of speculation, Nintendo finally dropped a short teaser trailer of the Switch 2 last month confirming some key details. Even though a lot of details are still under wraps, here’s a roundup of what we know about the Nintendo Switch 2 so far.

Nintendo Switch 2 – What’s New?

At first glance, the Switch 2 looks a lot like the original, but it comes with some key improvements such as a larger display, Magnetic Joy-Cons instead of mechanical rails, a sleeker design and backwards compatibility with Switch games.

Nintendo hasn’t changed the core concept and it’s still a portable console with detachable controllers that dock for big-screen gaming.

image

One major change is the new magnetic attachment system for Joy-Cons. They won’t slide into place like before but connect magnetically. A small connector on the main unit likely charges the controllers and could remove the need for Bluetooth pairing. It’s unclear if older Joy-Cons will work with the new system.

Another welcome addition is a second USB-C port on the top, making it easier to plug in accessories while docked. The headphone jack stays and hopefully, Bluetooth headphone support will be available out of the box unlike the original Switch, which made users wait years for the feature.

The kickstand also gets an upgrade just like the Switch OLED but fully adjustable for better viewing angles.

Nintendo Switch 2 – Launch Date

As for the launch, the only thing we know for sure is the confirmed release year 2025. However, leaks from accessory maker Genki suggest a launch in April, while other reports point to June.

We should get an official release date during the April 2 Direct.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told Nikkei earlier in February 2025 that the company would “prepare enough products to meet demand” for Nintendo Switch 2 at launch (translated from Japanese).

Nintendo Switch 2 – Nintendo’s Hosting Demo Events

Nintendo is planning a worldwide roadshow where gamers can get hands-on experience with the Switch 2.

  • New York & Paris: April 3-6
  • More cities to follow over the next two months

This lines up with rumours of a June release.

Ticket registration for Switch 2 Experience events in New York, Los Angeles, and Paris starts January 17 at 3 PM ET and runs until January 26. You’ll need a Nintendo Account, and winners will be randomly selected.

The full list of Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events is as follows:

North America –

  • New York, April 4-6, 2025
  • Los Angeles, April 11-13, 2025
  • Dallas, April 25-27, 2025
  • Toronto, April 25-27, 2025

Europe –

  • Paris, April 4-6, 2025
  • London, April 11-13, 2025
  • Milan, April 25-27, 2025
  • Berlin, April 25-27, 2025

  • Melbourne, May 10-11, 2025

Asia –

  • Tokyo (Makuhari), April 26-27, 2025
  • Seoul, May 31-June 1, 2025
  • Hong Kong, To be announced
  • Taipei, To be announced

Nintendo Switch 2 – Backwards Compatibility Confirmed

Nintendo confirmed in November 2024 that the Switch 2 will support existing Switch games, both physical and digital. It will also include Nintendo Online letting users play retro classics.

However, Nintendo notes that “certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.” Details on which games won’t work will be shared later.

Nintendo Switch 2 – Specs & Performance (Rumoured)

Rumours about the Nintendo Switch 2’s hardware have been circulating for a while. According to a leaked spec sheet from the Korean United Daily News, the console could feature an eight-core Cortex-A78AE processor, 8GB or possibly 12GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Reports also suggest that it will use an NVIDIA-produced Tegra239 SoC, which makes sense given that the current Switch already runs on an NVIDIA chip.

The real upgrade reportedly is expected to be the Switch 2’s GPU. It’s almost certain that the console will support DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), NVIDIA’s upscaling technology. This would allow games to be rendered at a lower resolution but displayed in high resolution improving graphics without putting too much strain on the hardware.

It is unclear whether the Switch 2 will support the latest DLSS features like frame generation or if existing Switch games will automatically benefit from the technology.

In terms of display resolution, recent reports suggest that the Switch 2 will run games at 1080p in handheld mode and 4K when docked. If true, this would be a significant leap from the original Switch’s 720p handheld resolution and sub-1080p docked output.

What Games Will Launch With the Switch 2?

The reveal trailer showed a new Mario Kart hinting at a long-awaited sequel. Other possible launch games include –

  • A new 3D Mario adventure
  • A Ubisoft title
  • A unique “party” game like 1-2-Switch

Moreover, Nintendo will likely confirm the launch lineup in April.

Nintendo Switch 2 – Expected Cost

According to online speculations and fans’ expectations, the Switch 2 will most likely cost somewhere around $400. However, there have been reports suggesting a higher pricing strategy.

In any case, we will have to wait till April 2 to know the exact details.

Galaxy S25 Ultra Gets Best Repairability Score in a Decade, Galaxy Z Fold 7 May Lose Some S Pen Features

0

Highlights

  • The Galaxy S25 Ultra received the highest repairability score for a Samsung phone in the past decade.
  • iFixit teardown lauds improvements like an easily replaceable battery using pull tabs.
  • The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 may lose some S Pen features.
  • Samsung focuses on making it the thinnest Fold model yet removing more stylus capabilities.

Samsung didn’t change much in the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s hardware but it seems the improvements turned out to be meaningful. According to the iFixit teardown video of Galaxy S25, the flagship device received the highest repairability score for a Samsung phone in the past 10 years. Here’s a quick rundown of the teardown video.

iFixit Teardown of Galaxy S25

One of the biggest changes observed in the iFixit teardown video of Galaxy S25 is how easy it is to replace the battery. Samsung has added four pull tabs behind the battery making it simple to remove without the need for extra force.

Unlike previous models, the battery is no longer glued to the chassis, which iFixit praised as one of the best decisions Samsung made.

However, the display is still tricky to remove. The iFixit team had to heat the phone to 150°C for three minutes just to soften the adhesive. Even then, the glue remained quite strong. Fortunately, most repairs don’t require removing the display, so unless it’s broken, it’s best left untouched.

image
iFixit recently released the teardown video of Galaxy S25. (Image credit – iFixit)

Interestingly, iFixit didn’t mention the removable camera rings but reports suggest the lens cover glass can be replaced without removing the back panel.

Check out the full video here –

To remind about iFixit with Samsung gadget teardowns, the Android Central report highlights, “It’s worth noting that iFixit cut ties with Samsung last spring as its repairability goals were misaligned. Much like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, iFixit highlighted how Samsung’s products are “too glued together,” which made it hard for the former to deliver the parts home repair consumers would need without a price spike.”

Overall, it seems the Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with minor improvements in performance, battery life and camera quality over its predecessor. If you already own a recent Galaxy Ultra phone, you might want to wait for next year’s model. Rumours suggest Samsung could switch to Si/C Li-Ion batteries, which offer higher energy density and bigger capacities without adding bulk.

The teardown made an interesting observation about the S25 Ultra’s S Pen. The stylus uses a PCB and has a structure quite similar to its predecessor.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 May Lose Some S Pen Features

image
Galaxy Z Fold lineup got stylus support back in 2021 with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. (Image credit – Samsung)

Speaking of the S Pen, we are getting reports that suggest the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 might be getting a slimmer design that could come at a cost. Rumours suggest we might be losing the S Pen experience.

A leak from an X tipster suggests that Samsung is considering scaling back the Fold’s stylus capabilities.

The Galaxy Z Fold series introduced stylus support with the Z Fold 3 in 2021 but it has always been somewhat limited compared to the S Pen in the Galaxy S Ultra series. For example, the Fold’s S Pen has never had Bluetooth support and now, the Z Fold 7 might take this a step further and remove even more features.

Samsung appears to be focusing on making the Fold 7 the thinnest model yet. According to the leak, the phone will be even slimmer than the Z Fold Special Edition, which measures 4.9mm when unfolded and 10.6mm when folded.

This wouldn’t be the first time Samsung tweaked S Pen functionality to fit a design change. Even the Galaxy S25 Ultra removed Bluetooth support for its S Pen. If the leak is accurate, the Fold 7 may sacrifice stylus features for a sleeker, more compact build.

FAQs

Q1. What is the repairability score of the Galaxy S25 Ultra according to iFixit?

Answer. The Galaxy S25 Ultra received the highest repairability score for a Samsung phone in the past decade.

Q2. What significant change did Samsung make to the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s battery design?

Answer. Samsung added four pull tabs behind the battery, making it simple to remove without the need for extra force. The battery is no longer glued to the chassis.

Q3. What potential changes are rumoured for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 regarding the S Pen?

Answer. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 might lose some S Pen features as Samsung focuses on making it the thinnest model yet. The Fold’s stylus capabilities could be further scaled back.

Apple’s Robot Products Likely Delayed Until 2028, Says Kuo

A recent video of an Apple-made robot lamp sparked excitement about the company’s future in robotics. However, it appears fans have to wait for a few years before they can get their hands on any actual Apple Robot products. Here’s what we know.

Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared an update suggesting that Apple’s robot projects are still in the proof-of-concept stage and won’t be ready for mass production until 2028 or later.

In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), Kuo explained, “The timeline from POC [proof-of-concept] to formal kick-off varies. Given current progress and typical development cycles, Apple’s robot mass production likely won’t start until 2028 or later. Interestingly, Apple has been unusually open about sharing some of its robotics research during the early POC stage—possibly to attract talent.”

The recent video and research paper titled “ELEGNT: Expressive and Functional Movement Design for Non-Anthropomorphic Robot” provided the first real glimpse into what Apple’s robotics projects might look like. However, ‘robots’ in Apple’s case don’t necessarily mean humanoid machines.

Kuo confirmed that Apple is exploring both humanoid and non-humanoid robots as part of a future smart home ecosystem, but these are still in the early research phase. The analyst writes, “Apple is exploring both humanoid and non-humanoid robots for its future smart home ecosystem, and these products are still in the early proof-of-concept (POC) stage internally.”

The robot lamp prototype that Apple has publicly shared might hint at the kind of tabletop home robot the company is developing.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported that Apple was aiming to launch a home robot by 2026 or 2027, but Kuo’s latest analysis suggests that we might not see anything until at least 2028, possibly indicating a difference in how they define a “robot.”

FAQs

Q1. When are Apple’s robot products expected to be ready for mass production?

Answer. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s robot projects are still in the proof-of-concept stage and likely won’t be ready for mass production until 2028 or later.

Q2. What types of robots is Apple exploring for the future smart home ecosystem?

Answer. Apple is exploring both humanoid and non-humanoid robots as part of its future smart home ecosystem.

Q3. What is the significance of the robot lamp prototype shared by Apple?

Answer. The robot lamp prototype hints at the type of tabletop home robot Apple might be developing, but actual product releases are still years away.
