Vivo is reportedly working on the Vivo X Fold 4 featuring the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. While other details are mostly speculation at the moment, a new leak suggests the phone might see one significant design change. Here’s what we know so far.

Vivo X Fold 4 To Switch to a Side-Mounted Fingerprint Sensor

According to tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS), the X Fold 4 will no longer feature an in-screen fingerprint sensor, which will be a first for Vivo’s foldable lineup.

Tipster DCS’s post on Weibo. (Translated via Google Translate)

Tipster DCS’s Weibo post also revealed that four Chinese smartphone brands will launch foldable phones this year. While he didn’t name them directly, reports suggest they are the Oppo Find N5, Honor Magic V4, Vivo X Fold 4 and Huawei Mate X7.

Interestingly, Xiaomi may skip the Mix Fold 5 this year, though the brand is reportedly still committed to book-style foldable.

The biggest takeaway from the leak is that all four upcoming foldable will feature side-mounted fingerprint sensors instead of in-screen ones. This marks a big shift for Vivo as all its previous foldables from the X Fold and X Fold+ with optical sensors to the X Fold 2 with ultrasonic sensors have used in-screen fingerprint readers for both internal and external displays.

DCS claims that brands are moving to side-mounted fingerprint sensors to make foldable devices thinner, targeting an 8mm thickness range. For comparison, the upcoming Oppo Find N5 is rumoured to measure 9.2mm when folded.

Vivo X Fold 4 – Expected Specs

The Vivo X Fold 4 is shaping up to be a slim and lightweight foldable despite packing a huge 6,000mAh battery. Here’s what the leaks suggest:

  • Chipset: Snapdragon 8 Elite
  • Charging: Wireless charging support
  • Water Resistance: IPX8-rated

Rear Cameras:

  • 50MP main sensor
  • 50MP ultra-wide lens
  • 50MP periscope telephoto lens (3x optical zoom)

Unlike last year, Vivo is reportedly not planning a Pro model, which means we will only see the standard X Fold 4 this time.

Meanwhile, with all foldable phones reportedly getting thinner and more refined, it will be interesting to see how this design shift plays out.

A leaked “About Phone” screenshot on Weibo has spilt the beans on some major specs giving us a clearer picture of what to expect from the Find N5.

  • 512GB storage
  • 5,600mAh battery with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging

Oppo Find N5 – Other Key Specs

The Find N5’s triple-camera setup has a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP secondary lens and another 50MP sensor (likely a 3x periscope telephoto lens). There are two 8MP cameras for selfies, one on the outer screen and another inside.

  • 32MP front camera + 20MP internal camera

So, while the battery and processor are getting an upgrade, the camera setup is taking a step back.

  • The first foldable with IPX6, IPX8 and IPX9 water resistance.
  • The slimmest foldable in its category while still having a large battery.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra – What to Expect?

Beyond design changes, the Find X8 Ultra is rumoured to bring some camera upgrades as well. Reports suggest it will feature a 50MP IMX882 sensor with 6x periscope zoom, an improvement over the Find X7 Ultra’s 5x IMX858 lens. Powering the device will reportedly be a 6,000mAh battery with support for 100W fast wired charging. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset is expected to drive the performance. Other possible features include an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and IP68/69 dust and water resistance.

The Find X8 Ultra is expected to launch in March.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra Might Feature a 200MP Periscope Camera

While Oppo is gearing up for the Find X8 Ultra’s launch, details about its successor the Find X9 Ultra are already surfacing. According to Digital Chat Station, Oppo is considering a 200MP periscope lens for its 2026 flagship replacing the 50MP + 50MP dual-periscope setup found on the Find X7 Ultra and the expected Find X8 Ultra.

DCS’s post on Oppo Find X9 Ultra.

The Find X7 Ultra was the world’s first dual-periscope flagship, but it looks like Oppo may now follow Xiaomi and Vivo, who have already adopted 200MP periscope cameras for their Ultra-tier phones.

It’s still early for any confirmed details as the Find X8 Ultra hasn’t even launched yet and the Find X9 Ultra won’t be released until 2026. But if the leak is true, Oppo’s next Ultra flagship could take mobile photography to the next level.

Netflix may be gearing up to compete with ESPN by bidding for the US broadcast rights to Formula One, according to a report by The Athletic.

This move comes after the massive success of Netflix’s F1 docuseries “Drive to Survive,” which debuted in 2019 and is widely credited with boosting F1’s popularity in the US. As a result, the value of the sport’s broadcasting rights has also increased.

Currently, ESPN holds the US broadcast rights to Formula One under a deal that runs through 2025. The agreement is estimated to be worth $75 to $90 million per year, according to Sports Business Journal.

Compared to rivals like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Peacock, Netflix has been cautious about acquiring live sports rights. However, the company has been gradually expanding into live event programming. Netflix’s rival Amazon.com Inc. in partnership with Walt Disney Co. and Comcast Corp. secured an 11-year, $77 billion agreement to air NBA games last July.

In 2024 alone, Netflix streamed the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight and, for the first time, broadcast three NFL Christmas Day games. It has also become the new home of WWE Raw.

Speaking on a recent earnings call, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos acknowledged the company’s interest in live events saying, “We are constantly trying to broaden our programming. Live events (are) one of those things, and sports is part of those live events.”

However, he also pointed out that full-season sports broadcasting remains financially challenging stating, “The underlying economics of full-season, big-league sports remain extremely challenging.”

While Netflix has yet to confirm any official bid, its interest in Formula One rights signals a potential shift in its approach to live sports.

FAQs

Q1. Why is Netflix considering bidding for Formula One broadcast rights in the US?

Answer. Netflix is considering bidding for the US broadcast rights to Formula One to broaden its live event programming and build on the success of its F1 docuseries “Drive to Survive.”

Q2. What is the current status of Formula One broadcast rights in the US?

Answer. ESPN currently holds the US broadcast rights to Formula One under a deal that runs through 2025, estimated to be worth $75 to $90 million per year.

Q3. What are some live sports events that Netflix has streamed recently?

Answer. In 2024, Netflix streamed the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight and broadcast three NFL Christmas Day games. It has also become the new home of WWE Raw.

One unusual aspect that many tech enthusiasts pointed out online after the Geekbench appearance was its unusual name. According to the benchmark listing, Motorola’s next foldable will be called the Razr Ultra 2025, which is quite a shift from the brand’s usual naming pattern.

So far, Motorola has followed a predictable pattern where the global variant is named Razr Ultra and the same model is branded as Razr+ in North America.

Razr Ultra 2025 – A Big Hardware Upgrade

Apart from the name change, the Geekbench listing confirms a major hardware boost. In Geekbench tests, the Razr Ultra 2025 achieved 2,782 points in single-core performance and 8,457 points in multi-core tests.

The Razr Ultra 2025 will reportedly run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, making it a significant upgrade over the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 found in its predecessor.

According to the benchmark details, the Snapdragon 8 Elite features –

  • Two high-performance cores clocked at 4.32GHz
  • Six additional cores running at 3.53GHz
  • Adreno 830 GPU for graphics

The listing also reveals that the foldable will pack 12GB of RAM and will likely ship with Android 15.

Details beyond the chipset and memory are still under wraps, but with a new name and a big performance boost, it seems Motorola has some surprises in store for its next foldable flagship.

The company’s System LSI Division and Foundry Division are pushing to make this happen, but Samsung has faced yield issues in recent years. The Exynos 2500 reportedly had a low yield rate of just 20%, which is one of the reasons Samsung opted for an all-Snapdragon Galaxy S25 lineup this year.

The report, translated from Korean to English via Google Translate, reads: “It is reported that Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business Division and Foundry Business Division are pouring related resources into timely mass production of the Exynos 2600. This is because, given the delay in mass production of the Exynos 2500 last year, if mass production of the Exynos 2600 is also delayed, the company’s non-memory business will inevitably suffer a large operating loss.”

For mass production to be viable, Samsung needs to hit at least 60% yield or higher. This challenge played a key role in the company’s decision to partner with Qualcomm for the custom Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, which is faster than the standard variant.

If Samsung successfully stabilises production, Exynos could make a comeback with the Galaxy S26 series.

OPPO is gearing up to launch its next-gen foldable the Oppo Find N5 in February 2025 starting with China. While the pre-booking has already begun in China, the device is creating a buzz with every new update getting leaked in the global market.

We recently had OPPO’s Chief Product Officer Pete Lau confirming a no-crease main display as one of the major upgrades for the phone. But that’s not the only thing teased.

Lau has now revealed that the upcoming Oppo Find N5 will be getting IPX6/IPX8/IPX9 ratings. Revealed in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Lau’s latest tease hints that we might be getting one of the most water-resistant foldable yet.

For those unfamiliar with these ratings, IPX6 means it can handle powerful water jets, IPX8 ensures protection against continuous submersion and IPX9 makes it resistant to high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.

This makes the Find N5 one of the most durable foldable when it comes to water protection.

Oppo Find N5 – Slimmer Foldable

The Find N5 is confirmed to be wider and longer than its predecessor, the Find N3 while keeping a slim profile—just 4.2mm thick when unfolded and around 9mm when folded.

As for the no-crease display, early users note that while it isn’t completely crease-free, it’s a major improvement over other foldables in the market.

Leaked Renders Reveal Colours and Design

Thanks to tipsters Evan Blass and Arsene Lupin, leaked renders give us a clear look at the Find N5 in black, white and purple. The design builds on the Find N3, featuring a large circular camera module on the back with the OPPO logo underneath.

One of the biggest design upgrades is on the front. The bezels around the outer screen are significantly slimmer, eliminating the extra material that still exists on competitors like the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Find N5 makes the outer display blend seamlessly into the hinge, creating a more immersive look.

The Find N5 is expected to pack the following features –

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite (7-core) processor
  • 85-inch 1.5K LTPO main display
  • Large cover display

  • 80W wired + 50W wireless charging, reverse charging support

Global Launch & OnePlus Open 2 Rebranding
