Apple is developing at least two new external monitors and it’s unclear whether they are separate products or simply different prototypes of the same model. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has been working on a second-generation Studio Display codenamed J427 for a 2026 release.

However, another monitor codenamed J527 has also surfaced raising questions about Apple’s plans. Here’s what we know so far.

While it might seem like Apple is already working on a third-generation Studio Display, Gurman says that may not be the case. He explains, “Now, here’s one twist. One of the standout features of the iPhone 17 Air is its incredibly slim profile. Reports suggest it will be around 5.5mm thick, making it one of Apple’s thinnest iPhones ever. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to get noticeably thicker, while the standard iPhone 17 will remain similar in size.
