If you have been waiting for a Vision Pro revamp or the Apple Smart Home Hub this year, it appears you will have to wait longer than expected. In his recent Power On newsletter, Bloomberg Apple reporter Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is not planning a Vision Pro refresh in 2025. While the company could introduce new hardware ahead of a release next year, Gurman writes that “all signs are pointing to new Vision Pro hardware launching in 2026 instead.”
Apple instead is focusing on developing a more affordable mixed-reality headset.
Describing it as an “urgent goal,” Gurman wrote, “The more urgent goal is to produce a lower-cost version of the headset, and Apple is ramping up of development of such a product. Stay tuned for more details on that. Besides that device, code-named N107, Apple is actively exploring other ideas. That includes a version of the Ray-Ban smart glasses from Meta Platforms Inc. and an AirPods-like vision device with cameras.”
“All those devices would be further out than 2025, but this year should be a critical step toward that future vision,” he added.
This cheaper headset codenamed N107 is reportedly central to Apple’s mixed-reality strategy.
Meanwhile, famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had earlier predicted that Vision Pro 2 would enter production in late 2025 with an M5 chip and Apple Intelligence support, Gurman’s report suggests Apple is prioritising the lower-cost headset over a Vision Pro refresh.
Apple’s Smart Home Hub May Face Delays
Apple’s smart home hub famously called the Apple Command Center or HomePad might not ship as soon as expected. While previously rumoured for a spring 2025 launch, Gurman suggests it could face delays due to its reliance on Apple Intelligence development.
The hub is expected to include the following key features based on previous rumours –
- A 7-inch square display with a thick bezel
- A top-mounted camera
- A rechargeable built-in battery
- A new operating system called homeOS
- A focus on video apps like FaceTime
- Support for Apple apps and smart home controls
- A StandBy-inspired dashboard
Gurman notes that users will be able to “hang it on a wall or place it on a countertop — perhaps in a few spots around the home.”
However, the hub’s release could be delayed due to dependencies on iOS updates. He writes, “Apple has been planning to introduce the home hub in March, but it may take longer to reach consumers. The device’s new operating system — code-named Pebble — is heavily tied to App Intents features coming in iOS 18.4 and iOS 19, so it’s plausible that the hardware itself will ship a bit later.”
Gurman also shares updates on Apple’s smart home plans including a Face ID-powered doorbell, a more private security camera and a conversational chatbot assistant LLM Siri expected to debut with iOS 19.4 in spring 2026.
Apple’s focus on affordable devices does show a clear vision for the future even if it means the launch will face some delays.
