OnePlus launched its first foldable phone, theOnePlus Open quite recently, and it has already undergone some rigorous durability testing, particularly focusing on its bend resistance.
Popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything (Zack Nelson), known in the industry for going pretty hard on devices with his testing, especially folding phones, gives a comprehensive insight into how the OnePlus Open stands up in his durability test.
Performance in Dust, Burn, and Bend Tests
You can check out the full OnePlus Open durability video here.
In the dust resistance test, the OnePlus Open successfully kept dust from entering the hinge area, maintaining normal functionality.
Zack put in a copious amount of sand through the hinge, a scenario unlikely to occur unless you are on a beach.
The burn test revealed that the outer screen could withstand heat for about 25 seconds before showing damage, whereas the inner screen displayed a permanent black mark within five seconds.
This doesn’t surprise us since the inner screen is made from plastic, which just doesn’t hold up against heat.
However, the highlight of the testing was the bend test.
OnePlus claims that their foldable device can endure up to 1 million folds.
You can’t verify such a claim unless you lie dormant under the arctic permafrost for a million years.
The closest you can get is Zack’s test which provided a glimpse into the phone’s resilience.
Despite applying considerable force, the OnePlus Open showed no signs of bending or breaking.
Even after being folded back, the phone continued to function properly, although it did not return to its original precision.
Impressive durability from a company whose regular rectangular slab of a phone crumpled under the same conditions.
OnePlus Open’s Durability: The Best?
The OnePlus Open, priced at Rs 1,39,999 for the 16GB + 512GB variant, boasts an aluminum frame and a large camera module at the back.
Through these tests, the device demonstrated a commendable level of durability, particularly in the bend test, which is crucial for foldable phones.
Is the OnePlus Open one of the most durable folding phones on the market? Zack’s testing surely shows so.
