“We’re very, very excited to bring GPT-4o to all of our free users out there,” Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati said at the highly anticipated launch event in San Francisco.
“We want you to be able to use it wherever you are,” Murati said. “It’s easy, it’s simple, it integrates very, very easily in your workflow.”
“We also care a lot about the next frontier,” Murati said. “So soon we’ll be updating you on our progress towards the next big thing.”
“We know that as these models get more and more complex, we want the experience of interaction to become more natural,” Murati said. “This is the first time that we are really making a huge step forward when it comes to the ease of use.”
“The new voice (and video) mode is the best computer interface I’ve ever used. It feels like AI from the movies,” said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in a blog post.
“Talking to a computer has never felt really natural for me; now it does,” he added.
“We are a business and will find plenty of things to charge for,” Altman said on his blog.
“GPT-4o provides GPT-4 level intelligence but is much faster,” Murati said on stage. “We think GPT-4o is really shifting that paradigm into the future of collaboration, where this interaction becomes much more natural and far easier.”

ChatGPT Desktop App
Apart from all this, there are some new updates as well.
A new ChatGPT desktop application has just been introduced, which for now is available to macOS users.
The app is available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers from today, and it plans to roll out more widely to free users in the coming weeks.
A Windows variant will also be available later this year.

One of the exciting features of the desktop app is computer vision: the AI can analyze and help with whatever is on the screen of your computer.
This feature can be toggled on and off at will to offer more flexibility to users for the way they use the AI.
