After years of teasing at tech events, Samsung’s home robot Ballie is finally set to roll into homes. At CES 2025, the company announced that Ballie will hit the market sometime in the next six months.
Ballie is a small and anthropomorphic robot that moves autonomously around your home and can complete various tasks. According to Samsung, “Ballie acts as a personal home assistant, autonomously driving around the home to complete various tasks.”
While its exact capabilities remain unclear, Ballie received a notable upgrade at CES 2024 with the addition of a built-in projector.
Tomguide in its report specifies some tasks we can expect the robot to perform. The report read, “This Ballie will do all the things that Samsung showed off last year, including projecting stars on your ceiling during bedtime, showing off directions or projecting meetings on a wall. The device is supposed to include an array of cameras and sensors to help it sense the world around it and also act as a second set of eyes for you. Examples previously shown included using Ballie to interact with a pet at home.”
The home robot market has been notoriously tough. Beyond robotic vacuums, most devices in this space have struggled to gain traction.
High price tags and limited practical use have caused even major players to abandon projects, while smaller startups have shut down entirely.
It is difficult to predict if Ballie will change the trend when it comes to home robots. However, Samsung might find some early adopters in its home market of South Korea where tech is embraced much faster compared to the rest of the world. However, success in the US and other international markets remains uncertain.
Samsung could reveal more specifics including pricing and availability at its CES press conference on Monday at 2 p.m. PT. For now, Ballie represents a bold but uncertain step forward in the world of home robotics.
