Samsung Galaxy S22 price cut in India; Is It a Good Deal?
Samsung Galaxy S23 has finally launched at the Unpacked event, starting at Rs 74,999 in India.
While the design hasn’t changed much over the previous generation, including the Ultra model, the internal hardware receives improvements, especially the cameras and chipset.
Soon after the announcement, Samsung silently slashed the pricing of the Samsung Galaxy S22 on its own website.
To recall, the flagship launched at Rs 72,999 but is now available at a much cheaper price on Flipkart and Samsung’s own website.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 was launched in India at Rs 72,999 for the base model but now the price has been dropped to Rs 57,999 on the official Samsung website. However, the flagship is available for even less price on Flipkart as the e-commerce giant is selling it for as low as Rs 52,900.
Before the Galaxy S23 series goes on sale, the brand has slashed the prices of the Galaxy S22 from last year to make it a more affordable option.
This is the second price cut of the Galaxy S22 in the last three months. In November 2022, the brand slashed the price of this device by Rs 10,000, bringing its starting price (for the 128GB storage variant) down to 62,999. Now, another Rs 5,000 have been slashed from the price tag.
After the latest price cuts, the Galaxy S22 128GB storage model starts at Rs 57,999, while the 256GB model costs Rs 61,999.
The price cut applies to all of the color options of the device. To make the deal even sweeter, customers purchasing the smartphone using the Samsung shop app will get a discount of Rs 2,000.
Additionally, 100GB of free cloud storage from OneDrive will also come bundled with the purchase.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Price Cut in India, is it Worth Buying in 2023?
Samsung Galaxy S22 is definitely a good phone thanks to the immersive AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC which can handle day-to-day tasks without any problem, and the phone has recently received the Android 13 OS, which brings tons of new features.
The cameras are still very capable of clicking good pictures in well-lit conditions and the software optimisations have largely improved night photography as well.
However, on the flip side, the battery life is pretty ordinary and it can’t even last one entire day. You will have to charge the phone for the second time on any given day.
So barring this shortcoming, if you are looking for a compact-sized phone and one that is quite powerful, the Galaxy S22 is a pretty good option to consider.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 is an old 5G smartphone, but people can buy it if they want a flagship phone with a great camera setup and fast performance.
One doesn’t need to worry about software support because Samsung has promised to offer long-term support.
The handset is entitled to receive four years of major Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates so it’s safe to assume that the device will receive major updates till Android 16.

Difference & Similarities Between S22 & S23
One of more reasons to buy the S22 is that the new Galaxy S23 is pretty similar to its predecessor, so one will likely be getting more or less the same experience at a much lower price. The biggest difference is in the chipset and battery.
The rest of the features such as stereo speakers, IP68 water resistant rating, 25W fast charging, 6.1-inch AMOLED display and triple rear cameras are the same on both devices.
Galaxy S22 Price Cut Makes it the S22 FE we Never Got
Samsung didn’t reveal a new Fan Edition smartphone alongside the Galaxy S23 lineup at Galaxy Unpacked, but it did have a surprise announcement concerning the base Galaxy S22 from last year.
The 2022 flagship received a flat $100 discount, and in a roundabout way, this makes it the S22 FE we never received.
Samsung usually stops selling previous-generation flagships once a new series is out, and indeed, you can no longer buy the Galaxy S22 Ultra in the USA. As of this writing, the S22 Ultra page redirects to the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
However, the company will keep selling the base Galaxy S22, and during its S23 launch event in San Francisco, Samsung announced a new price of $699 for the 2022 flagship phone.
The Galaxy S22+ is still available for the original price of $999.
The Galaxy S22 is almost like the new Fan Edition smartphone. Samsung released the Galaxy S22 flagship last year for $799 and the Galaxy S21 FE $699. So, even though the company didn’t reveal a new Galaxy S22 FE phone for 2023, the $100 flat price reduction certainly makes up for it.
We don’t know how long the Galaxy S22 will remain in stock, but given that Samsung announced the $100 price cut on stage at Unpacked ,the S22 is probably here to stay for a while.
Filling the $699 price segment with the Galaxy S22 may be an even better solution than releasing a new Fan Edition phone.
The Galaxy S22 is a full-fledged flagship with premium firmware support, and it would’ve been difficult for a Fan Edition smartphone to offer better features for the price and fill its shoes.
By dropping the Galaxy S22 to $699, Samsung has essentially turned it into a Fan Edition smartphone — the one we never got and FE enthusiasts deserve.
Assuming this price cut happens in every market where Samsung would’ve released the S22 FE.
