South Korean tech giant Samsung is prepping to unveil its much-anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 this year.
The company usually launches its foldable phones at its Galaxy Unpacked event, which generally takes place in August.
However, this year, the company might hold the event in the last week of July instead of August.
According to a new report, moving the event a few weeks earlier could narrow the time difference between the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the rumoured Google Pixel Fold. The upcoming Google device is anticipated to be unveiled during Google 1/O 2023, which is scheduled for May 10th.
Samsung’s next Galaxy Z Fold 5 has been a part of the rumour mill for the last few weeks, and a new leak has tipped its launch timeline. Samsung typically launches Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series folding phones in August, which earlier used to be reserved for the discontinued Galaxy Note series.
The leak by online publication SamMobile notes Samsung will launch new Galaxy Z series folding phones between July 25 and 27. However, the new phones may start retailing from August onwards, but in the company’s same third financial quarter.
The report does not state the reason behind the early launch, though the timing is interesting since Google is also expected to unveil its first folding smartphone in May. Once the Google Pixel Fold is officially launched, the phone may start retailing in July or September — just around the same time as Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Although Samsung and Google have been working closely to improve the Android OS across devices (smartphones, watches, and wireless earbuds), the Pixel Fold’s entry could start a new wave in the foldable phone market. Currently, only Samsung is a major tech giant to sell multiple-generations of folding phones in countries, including India.
South Korea-based Samsung’s Chinese counterparts, such as Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo, sell their own respective smartphones, but they aren’t available in global markets, including India. Oppo recently started selling the Oppo Find N Flip, which features a clamshell folding design like Galaxy Z Flip, in India.
At the same event in July, called Samsung Unpacked, Samsung may also unveil their next-gen Galaxy Watch 6 series and the premium Galaxy Tab S9 tablets. We might also see new-gen Samsung Galaxy wireless earbuds, though chances are very bleak.
As for the rumoured specifications, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 may feature the same notebook-like folding design but lighter. For instance, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is more or less similar to its predecessor based on design, but moderately lighter at 254 grams. Samsung may also improve the rear camera system with a 200-megapixel sensor, which recently debuted on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Since the folding mechanism in smartphones remains uncommon, the price could be significantly higher in comparison to regular phones. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 costs Rs 1.54 lakh in India for the 256GB storage variant.
2023 Galaxy Unpacked event: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5 and more
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series, Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, and even new earbuds are expected from Samsung later this year. It is now said that the next Galaxy Unpacked event for the South Korean tech giant may take place in the last week of July, specifically between July 25th and July 27th.
Every year, Samsung has its second big Unpacked event in August, so this would be a big change, though it might not be all that shocking. It’s probable that Samsung doesn’t want to give the competition too much breathing room because the market for foldable smartphones is heating up, and Google is getting ready to release the Google Pixel Fold, as per the report.
Both Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be launched as the successors to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 and have appeared on several certification websites, revealing some of their specifications, including their charging capability and chipset. You can read more about them here.

Faqs on Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event
1) What is the update on Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event ?
Ans) Sammobile reports that Samsung is preparing an Unpacked event for “the final week” or July 2023, likely between July 25 and July 27. All three dates would roughly line up with Samsung’s usual launch event days, but what’s notable here is this is coming well ahead of schedule.
Last year, Samsung hosted a launch event for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 on August 10, over two weeks after this proposed date for the 2023 event. The two phones later started shipping by the end of the month.
It’s not hard to figure out why Samsung is pushing things along a bit faster. Google is preparing to launch the Pixel Fold at Google I/O next month ahead of a release in June, and OnePlus is also launching its first foldable sometime in Q3 (likely in July or August, per the company’s usual pattern).
Samsung pushing up the release date for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 to July keeps the company closer to those releases, rather than following them all. Samsung’s next Unpacked event is also set to launch the Galaxy Watch 6 with an upgraded chip, a new series of Galaxy Tab S9 tablets, as well as new earbuds, and a sequel to its Galaxy SmartTag tracker.
2) What are the products expected by Samsung this year ?
Ans) The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series, Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, and even new earbuds are expected from Samsung later this year.
