Highlights

  • Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim to be 11.5mm thick, about 5% thinner than the regular version
  • Pen compatibility removed to achieve a thinner design
  • Slim version will be available in Korea and China later this year
  • Samsung focuses on balance between thinness and functionality

Samsung is working on a new version of its foldable phone, called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 “Slim”.

But it looks like it won’t be as thin as people thought.

Samsung used to be the only big name in foldable phones.

Now, other companies are making foldables too, and some are even thinner than Samsung’s.

The new Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 12.1mm thick, which is the thinnest Samsung has made.

But a company called Honor has a foldable phone that’s only 9.2mm thick.

To keep up, Samsung is trying to make an even thinner version of their phone.

They’re calling it the Galaxy Z Fold 6 “Slim”.

But a new report says it might not be as slim as we hoped.

The Challenges of Making Thinner Phones

The report says the new “Slim” phone will be about 11.5mm thick.

That’s only about 5% thinner than the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6.

To make it thinner, Samsung is taking out the part that lets the phone work with a special pen.

This part alone makes the phone 0.6mm thicker.

Samsung isn’t making the phone super thin because they’re worried about how well it will work.

They think it’s better to have a slightly thicker phone that works well, rather than a very thin one that might have problems.

Some parts for this new phone are already being made.

The “Slim” version will only be sold in Korea and China later this year.

Samsung once wanted to make a foldable phone less than 8mm thick, but that seems hard to do right now.

Even though it’s not as thin as some hoped, the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 “Slim” is still a step forward for Samsung.

It shows they’re trying to make their foldable phones better, even if the changes are small.

As more companies make foldable phones, we might see even thinner ones in the future.
