Redmi has officially confirmed a new fast charging technology, namely the 300W Immortal Second Charger, which claims to fully charge a smartphone in five minutes. The Chinese phone manufacturing company has yet to confirm the technical aspects of the charging technology. Fast charging is an extremely popular feature in smartphones these days that allows users to charge their devices much quicker than it would normally take. Not all products or brands use a similar type of fast charging, and not all chargers assist all the different standards. According to Redmi's translated Weibo post, the new charging technology is named "300W Immortal Second Charger," which indicates that it could be an alternative charging technology. Further information about the charging technology will be revealed in time by the company. “This is the 300W charging test of the Note 12 Pro+ magic version," the post reads. The Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition, available only in China, is the company's fastest charging smartphone to date. It supports 210W charging and claims to charge the device completely in about 10 minutes. Among competitors, the Realme GT Neo 5 was announced as the world's first smartphone with 240W charging earlier this year. It claims to be the fastest charging speed that a USB-C port can support, charging the 4,600mAh battery-supported phone completely in under 10 minutes. The device ships with a 20V/12A adapter. The Realme GT Neo 5 also launched with a 150W fast charging variant with a 5,000mAh battery, which comes with a 20V/8A adapter in the box. Redmi has officially announced a 300W ultrafast charging solution. This comes just a month after Realme introduced its 240W fast charging tech. With this, Redmi officially becomes the fastest charging solution in the world, interestingly on the day when Realme is launching the fastest charging phone yet in the world - the Realme GT 3. The company claims this can charge the battery to 100 percent in just 5 minutes. The brand has posted an official demo video and used a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery (Explorer Edition) with a 4,100mAh battery (the original has a dual 4,300mAh cell) in a controlled environment. One interesting tidbit from the video that is officially posted by Redmi is the fact that the phone was able to touch 290W not the claimed 300W) only once and that too for about 3 seconds of time. Redmi 300W Fast Charging Solution The Redmi 300W fast charging solution is by far the fastest solution on the market. It is the theoretical max speed the charger and the battery can reach. It’s possible the customised Redmi Note 12 Discovery edition in the video is capping out the speed for safety reasons. The adapter itself comes with Double GaN technology and has “more than 50 safety protections.” Despite this, the charger retains a small size. Neither Xiaomi nor Redmi have mentioned when the 300W fast charging solution will be made available to customers. But we believe, the solution will be first available in China and later rollout globally. Since the tech is from Redmi, there are high chances, it might first come on a Note series model. Now, coming back to earth for a second. 300W charging speed is as impressive as it gets. However, Redmi claims to have used some additional tech to ensure that everything is working as smooth as possible. All of this power is ultimate bad for the phone itself. Thankfully, Realme has not mentioned anything about bringing this technology to mainstream. So, until that happens, we are still stuck with 240W being the highest, which, seems bonkers, to be honest.
