The “AI info” label will provide details about the level of AI editing. The changes will be implemented starting next week. The change is intended to "better reflect the extent of AI used in content," says Monika Bickert, Meta's Vice President of Content Policy. "We've continued to work with companies across the industry to improve our labeling process so that labels on our platforms are more in line with peoples' expectations." The company introduced new policies for content edited or manipulated with generative AI on both Facebook and Instagram. It also started labelling media with a “Made with AI” watermark. However, soon photographers all around the world started noticing issues with this tagging system. The issue was Meta AI labelling any content edited with AI tools including minor modifications such as retouching with the “Made with AI” tag. Now, addressing these concerns, Meta has decided to again change its AI labelling way and replace the “Made with AI” tag with the “AI info” label across all its platforms. This will apply to a wider range of video, audio and image content. Users can click the “AI info” label over the image to get more information. The “AI Info” label will reveal details of the level of AI editing a picture or video has been through before it was posted on Facebook and/or Instagram. Meta updated its old blog titled “Our Approach to Labeling AI-Generated Content and Manipulated Media” and announced the new labelling plans. The company confirmed that it will roll out the changes to the “AI info” labels starting next week. This will be uniform on all its platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Once the new AI labels rollout, any content that Meta’s algorithms detect as modified or edited by the AI tool will get the new “AI Info” tag However, Meta also clarifies that the “AI info” label will still be visible on content that is generated by an AI tool entirely. “For content that we detect was only modified or edited by AI tools, we are moving the “AI info” label to the post’s menu. We will still display the “AI info” label for the content we detect was generated by an AI tool and share whether the content is labelled because of industry-shared signals or because someone self-disclosed. These changes will begin next week,” What this means is if Meta detects that content posted on its social media platforms such as Facebook or Instagram has been edited with any AI tools, the details will be revealed in the “AI info” label in a menu. Users can simply click on the tag to get more information. Any generative AI content will be tagged with the “AI info” label automatically to inform users.
