After the WWDC event in June this year, Apple is readying for its major hardware event that are slated to take place later this year. The WWDC event had no mention of the rumoured M3 chipset but we could be hearing about it very soon. This is expected to take place at Apple’s rumoured hardware event in October. The rumours of Macs powered by the new M3 chip arriving later this year have been making internet rounds for a while. Now, we have a fresh report that reveals a more specific release timeline. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has claimed Apple is eying the October launch of the new Macs powered by the new M3 chipset. There will be three new devices in the first batch, followed by others next year. Apple M3 Chip May Power New iMac, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air Apple M3 Chip In the latest edition of his weekly newsletter Power On, Gurman has revealed that Apple is preparing to release a new iMac, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and 13-inch MacBook Air powered by the new M3 chipset. These new Macs are expected to arrive in October, after the much-awaited September event. The latter is the event where we will meet the new iPhone 15 series and Apple Watch models. It is currently unknown if Apple will hold a separate launch event for new iMacs in October. There is a possibility it may decide to announce new products through press releases. We have seen Apple follow both paths from time to time for Mac launches in the past. M3 chipset The M3 chipset will be an M2 chip successor but is expected to have the same number of CPU cores. The biggest difference between the two chips is the jump from TSMC’s 5-nanometer silicon fabrication process to the 3-nanometer silicon fabrication process. This change is expected to help M3 deliver improved performance and better efficiency. The new M3 iMac will likely continue with a 24-inch display, as Gurman has predicted a 32-inch iMac launch in late 2024. Apple also has an iPad Pro featuring an OLED display and an M3 chip under development, but it will not arrive this year. Its release is expected to happen sometime in 2024. There are also rumours of a foldable display MacBook coming in 2025. Most recently, Apple launched a new 15-inch MacBook Pro powered by M2 chipset at WWDC 2023. A new Mac Pro joined it with an M2 Ultra processor and a Mac Studio with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chipsets. These devices were scheduled to arrive much earlier but got delayed due to supply chain issues. The new MacBook Pro starts at Rs 1,34,900, and Mac Studio at Rs 2,09,900 in India. If you are interested in the Mac Pro, you will have to pay Rs 7,29,900 for the Tower variant and Rs 7,79,000 for the Rack variant. New M3-Powered machines from Apple are coming New M3-Powered * According to the latest report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to debut the M3-powered iMac, M3 13-inch MacBook Air and M3 MacBook Pro at an event in October. * Apart from having an event in September to launch the iPhone 15 series, Apple Watch Series 9 and probably a new tablet, the company is said to host another event in October. * The M3-powered machines could include the iMac, 13-inch MacBook Air, and a 13-inch MacBook Pro. * The report doesn’t mention any specific timeline for the event in October but Apple has a habit of announcing dates closer to the launch. * Since Apple has not mentioned anything about the M3 Mac products, the news may or may not pan out to be true. Besides the Mac machines, there is also a report that the company is working on an iPad Pro model with a large 14.1-inch display that could be powered by the M3 Pro chipset, which might debut next year. Another report, citing TF Security analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, suggested that Apple may use the 2nd generation TSMC 3nm process for its M3 and A17 Bionic chipsets. This also mentioned that these chips will be powering the upcoming Mac computers in 2023. The M3 Pro or M3 Max processors are expected to go into production in the first half of 2024. Ans) Apple has been working on its next-generation Apple Silicon chips, and now it looks like the Cupertino-based tech giant is all set to release devices powered by the new Apple M3 chip in the coming months. According to the latest report from Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, he says that Apple could launch new Mac devices powered by the M3 chip in October this year. He adds that Apple could launch the new iMac and 13-inch MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro, all powered by the M3 processor. It may seem that M3-powered devices are coming too soon, especially with M2 Ultra-powered devices getting launched last month. If the speculations are correct, the M2 lineup of chips got delayed because of supply chain issues. As for the Apple Silicon M3 processor, the chip is expected to have similar core counts as its predecessor but with enhanced performance and efficiency as the chipset is reportedly being manufactured using the new 3-nanometer (3nm) fabrication process. It is not yet confirmed if the company plans to hold a launch event for the new M3 chip and devices powered by it or if the company will make an announcement thorugh a press release. Whatever the case, we should know about it in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Apple is gearing up for its upcoming flagship smartphones and smartwatch in the month of September. The company will launch Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro lineup along with the Apple Watch Series 9. 2) M3 Silicon-based MacBooks To Arrive Sooner Than You Think.Details? Ans) WWDC 2023 saw the unveiling of the much-awaited 15-inch MacBook Air, the new Mac Studio, and M2 Pro and Ultra chipsets. However, we are yet to be treated with M3-based Macs. And with the year close to its end, we are expecting this to happen sooner than later. Earlier, a rumor suggested that M3-based Macs and MacBooks are set to arrive by the end of this year or by the first half of next year. Thanks to Gurman, we have received a much more conclusive launch window. 3) M3-equipped Macs Coming Soon? Ans) Gurman via his Power On Newsletter has revealed that Apple is gearing up to expand its Mac portfolio with M3 Apple silicon as early as October. The first products to gain the M3 chipset will be the 13-inch MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the next iMac. Although Gurman has not hinted at an exact debut date, we can expect Apple to make the announcement at the September iPhone 15 launch event with the official unveiling somewhere in October. However, it seems like Apple will keep M3-based high-end MacBook Pros (14-inch and 16-inch models) and the Mac Studio for 2024. Gurman states that “October is too early for new high-end MacBook Pros or desktops, so the first beneficiaries of the new chip should be the next iMac, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro.“ If you can recall, back in May, Gurman reported that Apple is testing a high-end M3 chipset with 12 CPU cores and 18 GPU cores. The rumored chip is expected to be the M3 Pro chipset and is said to be engineered on TSMC’s 3nm fabrication process. This means that by the time October arrives, the M3 chipsets will be sufficiently tested and made compatible for a conclusive launch. Further, the M3-based iPad Pro is also expected to make its entry next year and Gurman suggests that there might not be any major upgrades, except for the presence of an OLED display. This was also hinted at in a previous leak. Although we can rely on Gurman’s notability, we will urge you to take this information with a grain of salt.
