Gurman describes it as “something akin to a giant iPad that unfolds into the size of two iPad Pros side-by-side.” The foldable iPad is rumoured to have a massive display of around 20 inches when unfolded and now Gurman highlights that it will be a “single, uninterrupted piece of glass.” Apple is aiming to perfect the design by minimising if not eliminating the crease often seen in foldable displays. In his latest power-on newsletter, Gurman writes, “Prototypes of this new product within Apple’s industrial design group have a nearly invisible crease. But it’s too early to tell if Apple will get rid of it altogether. Samsung Electronics Co., which launched its first foldable phone five years ago, has tried unsuccessfully to remove the crease.” Apple is clearly focused on creating a device with a big screen that’s portable enough to fit in a backpack, rather than a smaller foldable tablet designed to fit in your pocket.
