If you want to add external links to your Instagram account, then there is good news for you as you can now add up to five links to your bio. In a post on his Instagram channel, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote that this is "one of the most requested features" they had and the feature is now live for users. Lets us look at the feature. Instagram has finally given in to years of creator demands. The social platform will now allow users to directly incorporate links to multiple external websites in their in-app profiles. Beginning today, all Instagram accounts using the most recently updated version of the mobile app will have access to the new five-link allowance. More bio links have been requested by influencers, business accounts, and regular users. The feature has been in beta testing with a small group of users for some time. It is now a reality for everyone. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the move to allow up to five in-bio links through his broadcast channel. While he didn't provide much information, he did say that allowing multiple links in the bio is "probably one of the most requested features we've had." Adding multiple links to your Instagram bio is a simple process. Users can add up to five external links under the profile edit menu, and those links will then appear on their account page in an expanded list. A dedicated button for adding a Facebook-specific link is also now available. There appears to be no restriction on the type of in-profile links that can be used, as long as they comply with Meta's terms of service. Users can also add URLs that lead to competing social and content platforms with the new links feature. As per Instagram: “Starting today, the update will make it easier for creators and other users to highlight their passions, bring awareness to causes they care about, promote brands they love, showcase their personal business, and more.” As you can see in these screenshots, your Instagram bio will now display how many links you have available, via profile linking. When tapped, users will then get a Linktree-like overview of the various link options that you’ve enabled. Which is bad news for Linktree, and other linking tools. Instagram’s opposition to external links has long been the key driver of usage for third-party link aggregator tools, but now, people will be able to replicate that capacity within the app itself, which will no doubt see many abandon their paid subscriptions to third-party apps. But then again, some of these tools enable branding options that could still act as an enticement, along with more link display options. It’s also become such a standard behavior now that users don’t find it jarring, so maybe, some businesses will stick with third-party link tools, even with this new capacity available. But it will likely limit new users signing on, as they can now do the same in-app. It’s good for users, though, and there’s a range of ways that brands and creators can utilize this capacity to drive traffic to various URLs to maximize their brand presence. It’s actually surprising that Instagram’s taken this long to implement it. Instagram allows five links in the bio With the newly announced feature, users now have the ability to add links to their profile through the mobile app. They can edit the links to include titles and rearrange the order in which they are displayed. In case you have added multiple links, visitors to your profile will need to click on a message that says “ and 1 other” to view the list of links. If you have multiple links to showcase on your Instagram profile or are currently utilising a “Link in bio” service, users will need an additional click to access your links regardless. Here’s how to put a link in an Instagram bio * To access your profile, simply tap on your profile picture located at the bottom right corner. * To edit your profile, tap on the “Edit profile” button located at the top of your screen. * Then, tap on the section labelled “Bio” to make changes. * Write a brief biography about yourself and include the URL to your website. * Click on the Save button. Meanwhile, the company has also recently launched Broadcast Channels, which is a messaging tool for creators to communicate with their followers on a larger scale. It is a public, one-to-many platform. With this, creators will be able to keep their followers informed. They have the option to share their latest updates and behind-the-scenes moments using text, photos, video, and voice notes. Additionally, they can create polls to gather fan feedback. Creators have the ability to send messages, whereas followers are limited to reacting to content and participating in polls. Faqs on Instagram Link Features 1) What are the Effects of the new link feature on Instagram ? Ans) Since its inception, Instagram has severely limited where and how users can link to other websites. Many users, particularly creators, and businesses, have relied on third-party assistance in the absence of any official option. For example, Linktree has proven to be a popular way for Instagram accounts to easily direct page visitors to a stylish mosaic grid of external links. Meta even uses a Linktree URL in the company's official Instagram profile. There are also Beacons and a variety of other methods for obtaining those "links in bio." However, with the app update, all of those tools will be competing with Instagram itself. Given, the Instagram update is still clearly limited. Five profile links are unlikely to completely replace the value of Linktree and other services that allow for unlimited, post-specific linking. And, as long as Instagram does not permit clickable links in posts, this will have to be done elsewhere. 2) How to add multiple links to your IG Profile ? Ans) To add multiple links to your IG profile, head to ‘Edit profile’ > ‘Links’ > ‘Add external link’.
