OnePlus 12 is expected to come with better camera hardware and faster charging speed than its predecessor. Early next year, the Chinese mobile phone brand, known for its high-end devices, OnePlus, is expected to launch its new mobile phone, OnePlus 12. This is following its usual launch pattern for previous models which arrives at the beginning of the year. Despite the fact that there are still many months before the official release, it is never too early for the rumour mill to roll out juicy details which we usually take with a grain of salt. A recent Weibo leak reveals some salient details about the OnePlus 12. The Weibo handle, @ExperienceMore has had some decent leaks in the recent past. Under the hood, this device will also come with a 5,000 mAh battery which is fairly enough for a 2023 flagship going by the battery capacity in recent high-end phones. Also, this device will support 150W fast charging. It will not be the first time a OnePlus device uses such high-power charging. However, there are still some questions about the coming flagship that begs for answers. Recall that the OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 11 downgraded the triple digit charging standard in North America. But it looks like OnePlus may finally catch up with its next flagship. @DCS also recently revealed that OnePlus and Realme are testing periscope cameras for use on the SM8650, which is expected to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This claim is also the same as the recent report from @Expereince More. This suggests that the OnePlus 12 may be able to get much closer to the action with its new camera lens. The addition of the new and improved periscope lens means that the OnePlus 12 will be capable of offering better zoom functionality. For those who love to take photos of distant objects, this is great news. The current OnePlus 11 offers a 2x optical zoom camera, which is surprisingly decent even when zooming in beyond that point. Keeping a traditional horizontal lens naturally limits how much magnification you can offer, because going too high inevitably increases the thickness of the phone. And if there’s anything modern smartphone companies hate, it’s unnecessarily thick phones. The periscope lens helps solve that problem, by bending the light 90 degrees into a vertical telephoto lens setup. Just like the periscope of a submarine. Storing the lens vertically means there’s a lot more available space to exploit, allowing phones to offer much higher levels of magnification without altering the exterior design too much. The tipster, who correctly leaked Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon naming plan before it was announced by the chip designer back in 2021, now says that OnePlus is testing a periscope camera on a product associated with a model number of “SM8650.” The latter turns out to be the rumored identity code of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. So let’s add up the clues. The device in question will be powered by Qualcomm’s 2024 top-of-the-line application processor, it is expected to have a periscope camera, and it is being manufactured by OnePlus. It’s not too hard to figure out that Digital Chat Station is writing about the OnePlus 12.
