The half-brother of late Mr Ratan Tata will be overseeing the Rs 30 lakh crore Tata Group empire. The decision regarding his appointment was made unanimously at a meeting in Mumbai on Friday following the passing of Mr Ratan Tata on Thursday at the age of 86. Mr Noel Tata currently serves as Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Tata International Limited. He also chairs Tata Investment Corporation and is a trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. Both trusts together hold a 66 per cent stake in Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group. Noel has played a key role in transforming the Tata group’s retail division called Trent. It went from a single store in 1998 into a successful chain with over 700 stores across India. Noel Tata has also served as Vice Chairman of both Titan Company and Tata Steel. He has also held the board position at Voltas. As Managing Director of Tata International Limited, he led the company’s growth and has been often credited for increasing its revenue from $500 million to over $3 billion between 2010 and 2021.
