Techno this week held its flagship launch event in Dubai to unveil the two new additions to the Phantom series – Tecno Phantom X2 and Tecno Phantom X2 Pro. Official successors to Tecno Phantom X boasting strong upgrades, both the newly launched flagship models have too much in common to differentiate as it appears from the specification sheet.
Keeping the similar design aspects aside, Phantom X2 and X2 Pro also have the same 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass screen protection, MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Chipsets, Android 12 OS, Memory Fusion (Virtual RAM), 5G connectivity, and 5160mAh battery with 45W fast charging support.
So, with all these similarities, what is the difference between both devices? And in case you would have to choose one, which one between Tecno Phantom X2 and Tecno Phantom X2 Pro would be the best for you? Let’s find out the answers to these questions in our quick Tecno Phantom X2 and Tecno Phantom X2 Pro reviews below.

Tecno Phantom X2 – 6.8-inch AMOLED Display, Dimensity 9000, 64MP Camera and More
The processor and camera are the highlights of Phantom X2, but we will get to that later. Let’s take a look at the display and design first. This comes with a 6.8-inch AMOLED high definition plus dot notch display.
This is quite clearly not the best display in the segment, however, the brand does pack up some extra cool features to make it impressive. The 20:9 ultra-wide cinema-like screen ratio, P3 wide colour gamut and 120Hz refresh rate with the toughest Gorilla glass protection do make up for the otherwise ordinary display.

The Phantom X2 has a unibody double curved screen design for a smooth touch and is easy to use. The design is quite futuristic and has a delicate texture that lends a premium look to the phone. It has 71 degrees ergonomic golden grip angle and as per the brand’s claim in the advertisements, the world’s first 3.5D lunar crater with dazzling stained glass.
Overall, the smartphone does make an impression aesthetic-wise, even though the overall back panel is quite polarising in its appeal. Phantom X2 will be available in Moonlight Silver and Stardust Grey colour options.
The powerful flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset 4nm supports the device for unparallel performance. It is one of the most powerful processors in the market today and Phantom X2 is the first Tecno device to sport this processor.

Camera-wise, Tecno Phantom X2 is quite grand. But let’s talk about the rear camera setup at the back. The design, as mentioned above, is quite polarising with a big chunky design. It is packed with a 64 MP ultra-clear night portrait lens for night photography and videography. The lens is supported by light transmission glass, an RGBW sensor, a G+P lens, and an improved light-chaser sensor for providing more vivid night portraits.
Moreover, the ISOCELL light-locking tech in the smartphone will substantially reduce noise in your images. You also get a 32 MP ultra-clear selfie camera designed to facilitate crisp professional looking portraits. The selfie camera support in Phantom X2 comes further with a 3x ultra-clear lens, AI smart beauty features and a front flash.

Before we take an in-depth look at the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro, let’s look at the original eco-friendly special edition of the device. Tecno has unveiled a variant of Phantom X2 Pro in Mars Orange colour that the brand is claiming as the world’s first renewable fibre back cover made up of more than 50 recycled materials and 100% renewable materials. Apart from the special edition, Tecno Phantom X2 Pro has been launched in a regular Stardust Grey variant, which is almost identical to the Phantom X2 design and specification wise barring a few changes in the camera department.
A sureshot highlight of the Phantom X2 Pro is again the camera technology just as it is in the Phantom X2 but here there are special upgrades. This X2 Pro camera, as per the brand’s claim, is the world’s first ever retractable portrait lens on a smartphone. So, what does that mean? It means exactly what a retractable lens means. It is an expanding lens for expanding photography capabilities.
Supporting retractable lens is a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel, 2.5 x portrait lens and a 13-megapixel Ultra wide lens. Now, for a Tecno device, this is a much more sophisticated technology. This definitely enhanced the portrait imaging quality and coupled with the professional camera grader large aperture, this will surely offer high-end smartphone photography and videography experience.

The camera mould in ideal circumstances should take a second or two to expand and as per the brand, it is a dust-resistant lens that is robust enough to survive minor falls.
Other than this, Phantom X2 Pro also sports a similar 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass screen protection, MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Chipsets, Android 12 OS, Memory Fusion (Virtual RAM), 5G connectivity, and 5160mAh battery with 45W fast charging support as you would find in the X2 model.
The usual perception of Tecno as a smartphone brand is that its a budget or mid-range smartphone brand. But it appears the brand is striving to change that perspective by entering the flagship market.
The Phantom variants launched now are definitely a feat in that direction. Tecno is yet to reveal the price of both models. Tech bloggers have been expecting an arrival in the Indian market by the end of this month, so by the timeline, we should have a clearer picture of their price range.
