Highlight

  • Tim Cook hinted that Apple Intelligence will be a major draw for iPhone 16 upgrades.
  • All iPhone 16 models will feature 8GB of RAM, making them compatible with Apple Intelligence, unlike the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.
  • A Chinese news outlet suggests the iPhone 16 series might be announced on September 10.
  • Bloomberg’s Gurman confirms the September launch despite the delay in rolling Apple Intelligence.

After Apple released its earnings report on Thursday, CEO Tim Cook joined a conference call with Wall Street analysts and some media folks.

When asked about how many people might upgrade to the iPhone 16 series, Cook kept quiet about the numbers.

However, he did mention that Apple’s new AI, called Apple Intelligence, is compelling enough to encourage users of older iPhones to consider upgrading.

“I would just say that with Apple Intelligence, we are very excited about the level of value that we’re going to provide to users, and we believe that that presents another reason for a compelling upgrade,” said Tim Cook during a post-earnings report call with the media.

Apple’s AI needs at least 8GB of RAM to function. Currently, only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max meet this requirement.

But this year, all four new iPhone 16 models—iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max—will come with 8GB of RAM, making them compatible with Apple Intelligence.

If you have an iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus and want to try out Apple’s latest AI features, you’ll need to upgrade to an iPhone 16 model, as those are the only ones supporting the new tech.

Amidst all the buzz regarding iPhone 16 series leaks and speculations, a Chinese news outlet has claimed to know exactly when the new series will be out.

CNMO Technology News from China claims the iPhone 16 will be revealed on September 10.

This date makes sense since Apple often holds its iPhone launch events on Tuesdays, like last year’s event on September 12.

However, CNMO’s track record with predictions isn’t well-known, so take this information with a grain of salt.

It’s possible they’re just making an educated guess.

September 10 is Tuesday, which is Apple“s favorite day for launching its iPhones.

Last year Apple launched the iPhone 15 series on September 12, which was also a Tuesday.

Only the iPhone 14 series didn’t follow trend in 2022 and launched on a Wednesday.

four models, including the iPhone 16 Ultra, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, are expected to go on sale starting September 20.

“Apple Intelligence — a core feature of the iPhone 16 — won’t be ready until October. This time, though, Apple is taking a different tack and won’t hold back the new hardware until the services are ready. I’m told that the iPhone launch will occur around the same time as last year,” said Gurman.

In another update, we have Bloomberg’s technology journalist Mark Gurman reporting that Apple won’t be delaying the release of the new iPhone 16 models even though Apple Intelligence has been confirmed to be not launching until October.

It looks like Apple is not holding back and will be going on with the iPhone 16 September launch.

Last week, Apple Intelligence was updated to iOS 18.1, which means it didn’t make it into the initial iOS 18 release in September.

This new feature is expected to be a major draw for the upcoming iPhone 16 models.

The beta version of Apple Intelligence also rolled out last week, including some initial features like Writing Tools and Memory Generation for Photos.

It also introduced a new Siri interface, but many of the Siri upgrades and the ChatGPT integration are not available yet.

Other notable features like Genmoji and Image Playground are also not included in this beta version.

According to Apple’s report, iPhone sales brought in $39.3 billion for the three-month period ending June 29, down 1% from $39.7 billion for the same period in 2023.

At the same time, Tim Cook said in a conversation with analysts and journalists that the 15th series sold better than the 14th series over the same period.

Q6. iPhone 16 Still Coming in September Despite Delayed Apple Intelligence Rollout. Details ?

Answer. Apple will launch the iPhone 16 series within its traditional September timeframe this year, despite Apple Intelligence set to be absent in the first public release of iOS 18.

Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman says his sources tell him that the iPhone launch will occur around the same time as last year, with Tuesday, September 10 suggested as a possible launch day candidate.

Apple will ship the new iPhone lineup with its latest iOS 18 operating system, but users will not get Apple’s initial set of AI features, collectively dubbed Apple Intelligence, until the release of iOS 18.1 a few weeks later in October.

Apple and its investors are counting on Apple Intelligence to be a major draw that will attract new and upgrading iPhone customers, particularly since only the Pro models in the current iPhone 15 lineup are capable of powering the new features. But the company is not about to delay the launch of the iPhone 16 series just to coincide with the availability of Apple Intelligence.

Gurman notes that ahead of the 2011 launch of the iPhone, Apple did choose to postpone the device’s release from its then-usual June timing to October, in order to align it with the availability of iCloud and Siri, which were new online services at the time.

This year, however, Gurman does not see the delayed arrival of Apple Intelligence as being a big enough issue to change Apple’s hardware launch plans, especially given that the tools that will be rolled out first aren’t particularly game-chaining on their own.

Apple Intelligence features in the iOS 18.1 beta include Writing Tools for proofreading, rewriting, and summarizing text, a new Siri interface with Type to Siri, Mail and Messages app improvements like summarizing emails and Smart Reply, phone call recording, and audio transcription in Notes and other apps, and more.

Some of the more significant and compelling Apple Intelligence features that Apple plans to introduce at a later date include Image Playground, Genmoji, ChatGPT integration with Siri, priority notifications, and several other additions.
