The popular food delivery app Zomato has quietly rolled out a 15-minute food delivery feature on its app offering users a quick way to get meals from nearby restaurants. While the company hasn’t officially announced the service yet, it’s already live for select users and can be found under a dedicated “15-minute delivery” tab in the app’s Explore section.

How Does 15-Minute Delivery on Zomato Work?

The new feature highlights quick-to-prepare and ready-to-eat meals from restaurants located within a 1.5 to 2 km radius. Currently, the service is limited to specific areas but is expected to expand rapidly, according to a report by The Economic Times.

This isn’t Zomato’s first foray into quick food delivery. The company previously launched a service called Zomato Instant, which was discontinued in 2023.

It was replaced by “Everyday,” a platform offering home-style meals prepared in central kitchens, which has since expanded across major Indian cities.

Now, with this 15-minute delivery initiative, Zomato is directly taking on Swiggy’s Bolt launched in October 2024. Bolt has already gained traction accounting for over 5% of Swiggy’s food delivery orders and operating in 400 cities as of December.

Competition in Quick Food Delivery

Zomato isn’t new to the fast delivery market. Its quick commerce arm Blinkit runs a service called Bistro, delivering ready-to-eat meals from its dark stores. Similarly, Zepto offers its Cafe service, delivering food in just 10 minutes.

Apart from these giants, smaller startups like Swish and Zing are also vying for a share of the growing rapid delivery market. Although quick commerce for groceries and daily essentials is expanding, food delivery remains the main revenue driver and the only profitable segment for players like Zomato and Swiggy.
