This announcement came through a community update video posted on X and succeeds a lot of speculation surrounding the device over the past month or so.

Diving deeper into the details, it’s clear that Nothing isn’t just aiming to expand its product lineup; they’re responding directly to the community’s call.
According to Nothing’s co-founder, Akis Evangelidis, “With Phone 2a, we’ve really doubled down on the core user needs — performance, camera, you name it. And it’s also kind of leveraging some of the most loved features of (the) Phone 2 while ensuring it delivers a clear upgrade compared to Phone 1 on every single front.”
From Evangelidis’s comments, we can guess that the Phone 2a is set to embody an optimal balance of performance, camera capabilities, and beloved traits from its predecessor, the Phone 2, all while marking a significant leap from the original Phone 1.

Leaks and rumours have been swirling around the Phone 2a, suggesting it will pack a Dimensity 7200 chipset and come in two variants: 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB.
A 120Hz OLED display and a potential dual 50MP rear camera setup are also on the cards, hinting at a device that doesn’t skimp on specs despite its friendlier price tag.
But there’s more on the horizon from Nothing.
Alongside the Phone 2a, the company teased the upcoming release of new earbuds and a so-called Neckband Pro, expanding its ecosystem of tech products.
With the Mobile World Congress (MWC) just around the corner, speculation is rife that the Nothing Phone 2a could make its debut at the global tech showcase.

In 2023, Nothing focused on expanding its engineering capabilities across seven offices worldwide, resulting in the successful launch of two second-generation products.
Phone (2a) has been engineered with a focus on providing the optimal daily smartphone experience, doubling down on core user needs, with all of Nothing’s expertise and craftsmanship.
Phone (2a), codenamed Aerodactyl, leverages some of the most loved Phone (2) features, while ensuring a clear upgrade compared to Phone (1) on every front.
In addition to the name of the new device, the company shared that it’s launching Glyph Developer Kit, which gives 3rd party Android apps the ability to control the Glyph Interface, unique to Nothing smartphones.
