An innocent-looking scene in Sivakarthikeyan’s Tamil movie Amaran has caused unexpected distress for engineering student VV Vaageesan.

In the film, actress Sai Pallavi’s character, Indu Rebecca Verghese, casually throws a crumpled paper with a phone number on it at Sivakarthikeyan’s character, Major Mukund Varadarajan.

Unfortunately, the phone number displayed in the scene belongs to Vaageesan, leading to chaos in his life.

Vaageesan has now filed a ₹1.1 crore lawsuit against the filmmakers, accusing them of causing “untold hardships and mental agony.” He has demanded the removal of his number from the movie and compensation for the distress he has endured.

Vaageesan described the disruptions to The Hindu, which first reported the story. “Since the calls keep coming, I have to switch my phone to silent mode. I’m worried I might miss emergency calls or important messages from family or friends. I’ve had this number for two years—it’s linked to my bank accounts and shared with many contacts. I can’t afford to change it,” he explained.

He added, “I’m unable to even book a cab or call the driver because of continuous incoming calls.”

Number Added in Truecaller To Add to The Problem

To make matters worse, someone saved Vaageesan’s number on the caller ID app Truecaller under the name “Vaageesan Indu Rebbbica VV.” Truecaller allows users to manually add and label contacts and it seems a fan of the character Indu Rebecca Verghese might have linked the number with this name.

Since Vaageesan’s number was already connected to his name in Truecaller’s database, users who searched for the number saw this new and bizarre name combination.

This prompted even more calls with fans of Sai Pallavi and others trying to contact “Indu Rebecca Verghese” or “Major Mukund’s wife.”

The student reported the issue to his telecom provider, flagging the number as spam. A senior company official confirmed receiving the complaint and said they are working on a response, but no further details were provided.

Vaageesan initially tried to resolve the issue informally by tagging the movie’s director Rajkumar Periyasamy and lead actor Sivakarthikeyan on social media requesting their help.

However, he received no response, which left him with no option but to pursue legal action.

His legal notice seeks the removal of his number from the movie and compensation for the distress caused. As of now, the filmmakers have not responded to the notice.
