Xiaomi has confirmed that one of its flagship smartphones from last year is now getting its Android 13 upgrade, via the latest MIUI 14 update that has started rolling out to the Xiaomi 12 Pro.
The update was announced by Xiaomi India on Twitter on Monday, March 13th, and offers all the new features that MIUI 14 has offered on all devices that are eligible for the update.
This brings Android 13, and the latest generation of the custom Xiaomi interface, to a device that was launched globally over a year ago in December 2021, and came to India in April last year.
Xiaomi 12 Pro is receiving an update to Android 13-based MIUI 14 in India. The update for Xiaomi’s 2022 flagship smartphone comes with new redesigned home screen icons, widgets, folders, dual apps support, and the ability to remove objects from images.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro was launched last year with Android 12-based MIUI 13 out-of-the-box. It also brings several improvements to performance, including faster app launch times, improved system stability, and better battery life.
MIUI 14 is claimed to use 214MB less memory while booting up in comparison to MIUI 13, as part of Xiaomi’s efforts to optimise system memory usage.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Android 13 upgrade: How to Update
It is interesting to note that the Xiaomi 12 Pro (review) was scheduled to have received
MIUI 14 based on Android 13 within the first quarter of the year, and Xiaomi has now managed to keep its promised timeline.
The update comes about six months after the first stable rollout of Android 13 on Google’s own Pixel devices, which typically mark the initiation of software upgrade rollouts for all other Android smartphone brands.
To receive the update, you can simply go through the following steps
* Access the Settings menu on your Xiaomi 12 Pro.
* Scroll down to the ‘About phone section’.
* Under this, select ‘MIUI version’. This will show the presently installed software version on your phone.
* Select ‘Check for software updates’ from within this menu. This should make the MIUI 14 version show up.
* Tap on download and install, and follow the on-screen instructions from here.
As with every software upgrade, ensure that you have all your data and essentials backed up, just in case, to ensure no accidental loss of information.
Other smartphones that are also scheduled to get the MIUI 14 based Android 13 upgrade within the first quarter include Xiaomi 13 Pro, 11 Ultra, 11T Pro, 11X Pro, 11X, 11 Lite NE 5G, Redmi Note 12 Pro and Pro+ 5G, 11 Prime 5G and K50i 5G.
