HIGHLIGHTS
* The Nothing Phone (2) launch is expected to launch later this year.
* A concept creator has now made a video showcasing what the Nothing Phone (2) could look like.
* Nothing founder Carl Pei reacted to the concept design, calling it “stellar”.
The Nothing Phone (1) launched last year, and the time for a second-generation model is coming soon. The startup confirmed the launch of Nothing Phone (2) but there’s still no official confirmation on when we might actually see the device.
The Nothing Phone (1) is one that grabbed a lot of attention in the smartphone industry so there’s a great deal of expectation on the Nothing Phone (2).
There’s also not much we know about the Nothing Phone (2) but that hasn’t stopped this concept creator from imaging what it could look like. Shea, who goes by the Twitter handle @concept_central, shared a short video showcasing the concept design of Nothing Phone (2), which attracted a response not just from the official Twitter handle of Nothing, but also the founder-CEO Carl Pei, who called the design “stellar” and said it made the company’s job harder.
Nothing Phone (2) Design Concept
In the concept video, we can see that the Nothing Phone (2) retains the white LEDs which the company calls the ‘Glyph Interface’, and which is also the standout feature of the Nothing Phone (1).
One key difference that we can notice in the design is the camera module. The Nothing Phone (1) has an iPhone XS-like dual-camera module that is placed vertically. On the Nothing Phone (2) there’s a triple-camera setup that has a triangle-like design. And like the company’s design language, everything looks very sharp and geometrical.
The punch-hole camera has been moved to the centre of the screen with the earpiece just sitting on top of it. The volume buttons are on the left side of the phone with the power button on the right. Other than that we can see the iPhone 12-like flat edges on the Nothing Phone (2).
Just to be clear, this is only a concept design and not the official or final design of the Nothing Phone (2). But it was good enough to attract a reply from Pei himself. Considering how Nothing went all out for the Phone (1) it seems unlikely that we will see some major design changes with its successor. We are expecting some upgrades under the hood though.
Nothing Phone (2) Expected Specs
* Display: The Nothing Phone (2) is expected to feature a FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
* Processor: It could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
* Battery: The Nothing Phone (2) is expected to pack a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. It will most likely be wireless charging capable too.
* Camera: We don’t know yet if there will indeed be a triple-camera setup on the Nothing Phone (2) but leaks suggest a 50MP primary camera with OIS.
* Software: On the software front, the Nothing Phone (2) is expected to run Android 13-based Nothing OS out-of-the-box.
The Nothing Phone (2) launch has been confirmed by the company and it’s expected to release sometime in Q2/Q3 2023. The smartphone has also received BIS certification hinting at an imminent launch.

FAQ’s On Nothing Phone (2)
1) What are the Nothing Phone (2) specifications (expected)?
Ans) The Nothing Phone (2) is expected to feature a 120Hz refresh rate AMOLED display with a FHD+ resolution. Under the hood, the Nothing Phone (2) is expected to come powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which could be coupled with up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB storage.
Coming to the battery of the device, the Nothing Phone (2) is tipped to feature a 5,000mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging and wireless fast charging as well. In terms of software, the Nothing Phone (2) is more than likely to boot the latest Android 13-based Nothing OS out of the box.
Lastly, the device could feature a 50MP main camera with support for OIS.
2) What chip the Nothing Phone (2) will use?
Ans) The slip happened during MWC 2023. Qualcomm’s SVP and GM of Mobile, Compute and XR business unit, Alex Katouzian made a post congratulating Carl Pei and the Nothing team on the launch of the Nothin (2).
There are a few things interesting about the post.
Firstly, that phone is nowhere near launch.
We haven’t even gotten any official announcement about it.
What’s more notable, however, is the mention of the processor that this phone is set to use.
“Congratulations Cari Pei and the Nothing Team on the launch on the launch of Nothing Phone2 with #qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.” Since this bit of information came from an executive over at Qualcomm, we can be sure that it’s correct. You’d still want to keep an eye out in case anything changes or if Katouzian was actually mistaken.
So, if this phone uses a processor so powerful, then it will definitely be able to go toe-to-toe with the top phones of the year. Sure, it’s half of a generation behind, but the differences in day-to-day performance will be negligible. With a higher-performing chip, we’re also expecting a higher price tag along with it.
Not only is Nothing using a more expensive SoC, but the diminishing economy means that manufacturing the phone will be even more expensive. We’re not sure how much the phone will cost when it hits the shelves, but let’s hope that it’s close to that of the Nothing Phone (1).
Of course, for those that were hoping for and wanted the best possible internals inside the Nothing Phone 2, it looks like that probably won’t be happening this year. Again, as stated before, this isn’t a huge blow to the handset, and by using an older generation processor, there’s always the chance, or there’s a likely chance that the price of the device will debut much lower than competitors offerings.
But, it’d be interesting to hear your thoughts on this? What do you think about the Nothing Phone 2 using an older generation processor?
3) Whats new in the Nothing Phone (2) in comparison to Nothing Phone (1) ?
Ans) Now with a better build and specifications, we believe that the price of the Nothing Phone (2) may also go up quite a bit. The Phone (1) was launched in three variants in India – the base 8GB RAM plus 128GB storage model comes at a price of Rs 32,999. The other two models — 8GB RAM plus 256GB storage and 12GB RAM and 256GB storage come at a price of RS 35,999 and Rs 38999.
Although, the company has offered the phone with big discounts every other month since its launch. So, it is safe to assume that the price of the Nothing Phone (2) could be higher when compared to the Phone (1).
