Foldables are slowly becoming the new saviours of the smartphone segment, which off late has become quite a stereotype mostly because of the stale designs. The latest brand to join the foldable bandwagon is Tecno, which just launched the Phantom V Fold at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona. This is the first foldable from the brand and ships with the quite powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC, which means there is 5G network support and a 50MP primary camera on the back. In addition to the Phantom V Fold, the brand has unveiled the Tecno Spark 10 Pro selfie phone, MegaBook S1 2023 laptop with the Intel 13th Gen Core processor, and a range of AloT products. Tecno Phantom V Fold Price, Availability The Tecno Phantom V Fold price is Rs 89,999 for the 12GB + 256GB model and Rs 99,999 for the 12GB + 512GB version. However, the company is offering an early bird offer for the base model at Rs 79,999. The phone will be available in India this quarter. The availability and sale details will be updated shortly. Tecno Phantom V Fold Specifications As said, the Phantom V Fold is the brand’s first-ever foldable phone and is also the world’s first left-right foldable with MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC coupled with Mali-G710 MC10 GPU. The foldable packs 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB storage. There’s support for extendable RAM for better multitasking. The foldable runs on Android 13 OS with HiOS 13 Fold custom skin out of the box. The Tecno Phantom V Fold has a 6.42-inch FHD+ dual 10Hz-120Hz LTPO outer AMOLED display. There is a 7.65-inch 2K 10-120Hz LTPO AMOLED foldable display with 2296 X 2000 pixels resolutions, the ultra-flat main screen with dual-high brightness and dual-high colour accuracy. The chipset is paired with 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB/512GB UFS 3.1 storage. The Phantom V Fold packs triple cameras on the back, with a 50MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 50MP 2x portrait camera. There is a 32MP snapper on the outer screen and a 16MP shooter present in the inner punch-hole lens. The phone packs a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging support. The Phantom V Fold packs an in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, and USB Type-C audio. Connectivity options include 5G SA/NSA, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS/GLONASS, USB Type-C, and NFC. Ans) Since the only horizontal foldable phone that sells in India right now is the Galaxy Z Fold 4 â€” that will be the point of reference or comparison with the Tecno Phantom V Fold. So, at first glance, you see the outer screen, which is a rather conventional one. Galaxy Fold 4 has a tall screen, and since it is a thick phone, you still can’t use it as a traditional candy-bar smartphone. However, with the Phantom V Fold, the phone felt light and manageable in the hand for the first time experience. While folded, it feels as if its a normal 6.4” phone, and also because the phone is relatively slim for a foldable. As for the specs, the front screen is a 120Hz LTPO AMOLED, featuring a 32MP centre-aligned hole punch at the top. So, no cost-cutting here, which is great. Tecno has used some textured sort of finish at the back of the phone, and it is definitely not leather. I mean, I could be wrong, but whatever they have used here, it gives a satisfying feeling in the hand along with a reassuring grip. There’s a circular camera housing featuring three lenses â€” 50MP primary, 50MP telephoto and 13MP ultra-wide. Moving on to the inside, the Tecno Phantom V Fold features a large 7.85” 2K LTPO AMOLED display, which honestly looks gorgeous. It is fast, it is responsive, it is vibrant, there’s barely any gap between both the screens when the phone is shut and the crease is non-existent. And this is again, something that I have lately noticed with many other foldables, such as the Honor Magic Vs or the OPPO Find N2, that the crease is non-existent. However, while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a noticeable crease, what it does best over all the other foldables is able to prop itself on a flat surface, even at extreme angles. Now, I am not complaining about the Phantom V Fold’s hinge mechanism. In fact, the phone’s hinge feels solid and every time I shut the phone, that satisfying snap is always there. But, doing something simple like propping the Tecno foldable at a 90-degree angle is just not possible. Either the phone goes flat, or it snaps shut. Now, Tecno says, the company will be providing a case that will let users prop the phone like a laptop on a table, but without the case, just know, that it is not possible. On the inside also, there’s a corner-aligned 16MP hole-punch camera which I believe should be okay for video calls. Tecno has also got us covered in providing the rest of the top-notch specs. Things such as a Dimesnity 9000+ SoC under the hood, 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage, 5,000mAh battery and most importantly, HiOS 13 atop Android 13, which the company claims has about 1000 popular apps optimised for the phone. Out of which, 90 per cent of which are optimised to work perfectly fine in multi-window and split-screen modes. Of course, tall claims, but something that I will only check first and comment on later. For now, I can say that in terms of looks and responsiveness, HiOS 13 is fine. 2) What is the price of Tecno Phantom V Fold? Ans) The Tecno Phantom V Fold comes in two variants -- 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB. The company has priced the 256GB variant at Rs 89,999 and the 512GB version at Rs 99,999. 3) What are the colour options for Tecno Phantom VFold? Ans) The smartphone Tecno Phantom VFold comes in black and white colour options. 4) What are Tecno Phantom V Fold specifications? Ans) Tecno Phantom V Fold sports a 7.8-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED main display with 2296x200 pixel resolution. The display offers 120Hz of refresh rate. On the other hand, the smartphone features a 6.42-inch FHD+ AMOLED outer display with 1080x2550 pixel resolution. The flagship Tecno smartphone runs Android 13 operating system topped with the company's own HiOS 13 Fold UI. "Large-screen capabilities such as split screens, picture-in-pictures, parallel windows, and drag and drop across screens, as well as differentiated interactive animation designs create a system that empowers users’ productivity and overall enjoyment. In total, over 2000 apps have been adapted for HiOS13 Fold," said the company. The dual SIM foldable smartphone supports two nano SIMs and it comes equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The smartphone features a triple rear camera which comprises 50MP main sensor with f/1.8 aperture, 13MP ultra-wide angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and 50MP portrait telephoto camera. The smartphone offers dual selfie camera, the outer display houses a 32MP selfie shooter while the inner front camera is 16MP. The foldable smartphone comes with stereo speakers and is backed by a 4,500 mAh battery with 45W fast charging support. 5) How is the camera of Tecno Phantom V Fold?
