Instagram has introduced a new feature exclusively for Teen Accounts, allowing users to personalise the Instagram app icon on their phone’s home screen. The Meta-owned photo and video-sharing platform says the feature aims to give teens more creative freedom and control over how their app looks, letting them better express their personal style.
The update brings six distinct icon designs, developed in collaboration with illustrator Carlos Oliveras Colom (@doncarrrlos) and Instagram’s in-house Design team.
Announcing the feature in an Instagram post, the company’s design team wrote, “We’re introducing a creative new update to Teen Accounts: a customisable Instagram app icon! Teens can now choose from one of our six different aesthetics including chrome, cosmic, slime and more, all created by illustrator @doncarrrlos (Carlos Oliveras Colom) in collaboration with our Instagram Design team.”
Illustrator Carlos Oliveras Colom also shared his excitement about the project, saying, “I’m honored that I got trusted to bring some fun to life. If I was a teen I’d change that icon every day, either to express what I’m feeling or the vibes I’m setting for the day.”
According to Instagram, these icons are available exclusively for Teen Accounts and are designed to encourage self-expression and creativity. The feature also aims to give young users more control over their in-app experience, focusing on their friends, favourite content, and personal preferences.
The company added, “If you have a Teen Account, tap the ‘Instagram’ logo at the top of your home screen to unlock these icons today and let us know which aesthetic you’re choosing first in the comments.”
Teen users can access the new icons directly from the Instagram app. To do this, they simply need to tap the Instagram logo at the top of their home screen and choose their favourite design from the available options.
