Redmi has been teasing the upcoming Redmi K100 Pro ahead of its August 11 launch in China. After recently showcasing the Cabernet Red colour of the Redmi K100 Pro Max, the company has now unveiled the K100 Pro in a new Glowing Firefly edition. Meanwhile, a new tip has also revealed details about a special version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset that will power the Redmi K100 Pro series. Here’s more on what we know.
Redmi K100 Pro Gets Glow-in-the-Dark ‘Glowing Firefly’ Rear Design
Redmi has officially unveiled a special Redmi K100 Pro variant that features a glow-in-the-dark rear panel. Revealed via multiple official posts on Weibo, the unique design not only changes its appearance in different lighting conditions but also allows users to create illuminated patterns.
The newly introduced Glowing Firefly colour option comes with a fluorescent green finish that transforms after being exposed to light. Redmi says it has placed a special luminescent material between the phone’s glass back and the green ink layer, allowing the rear panel to function as a “light painting canvas.”
After absorbing light from a flashlight or another bright light source, the back panel glows in the dark and enables users to draw temporary glowing patterns on the phone. In normal lighting, the handset appears with a translucent green finish, while the glow effect becomes visible in darker environments.
To complete the design, Redmi has colour-matched the metal frame and camera module with the same green shade.
Besides the Glowing Firefly version, the smartphone will also be available in a Silver colour option.
New Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Variant Officially Listed
Redmi has already confirmed that the smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V-series chipset paired with an AI gaming display chip. Redmi has also revealed that the device achieved an AnTuTu V11 benchmark score of 4.095 million, highlighting its flagship-level performance.
Adding to Redmi’s official teasers, tipster Anvin claims that Qualcomm has officially listed a new variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset with the model number SM8850-1-AB.
According to the tipster, this new version will power the Redmi K100 Pro series. While the CPU and GPU clock speeds remain unchanged, the chipset has been optimised to deliver an improved gaming experience.

SM8850-AC – Standard version
SM8850-1-AD – Overclocked version
SM8850-5-AC – 7-core version
SM8850-1-AB – Gaming-optimised version for the Redmi K100 Pro series
What Else We Know SO Far?
Among other specs, Redmi has confirmed that the K100 Pro will feature a 6.59-inch flat OLED display built using the company’s new M11 light-emitting material.
The display adopts Redmi’s Super Pixel full RGB sub-pixel architecture and supports a 185Hz refresh rate, 4,800Hz instant touch sampling rate, and up to 4,500 nits peak brightness. According to the company, the new M11 green light-emitting material improves luminous efficiency by 20 percent compared to the previous generation.
Apart from the officially confirmed features, previous reports suggest the Redmi K100 Pro could feature a 200-megapixel primary rear camera. The handset is also expected to pack a battery with a capacity of over 8,000mAh and support 50W wireless charging.
Other rumoured features include a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, IP-rated dust and water resistance and telephoto macro photography support.
