Threads Finally Moves to Threads.com and Adds Handy New Web Features

Threads is officially making the switch from threads.net to threads.com, and it’s bringing along some long-awaited web features to improve the overall experience.

When Meta first launched Threads as a Twitter alternative, many people pointed out that the company didn’t own the threads.com domain. At the time, that domain belonged to a small messaging app startup that wasn’t keen on rebranding. Eventually, that startup was acquired by Shopify, and Meta later managed to secure the domain for an undisclosed amount.

Now that the move to threads.com is finally happening, Meta is also rolling out a few helpful updates to the web version of Threads.

Among what’s new is a floating composer window. You can now start writing a post in a pop-up window without leaving your feed, great for multitasking. Meta explains, “Click the “+” button in the bottom right corner of the screen to reveal a pop-up composer that follows you as you scroll your feeds, allowing you to post whenever something inspires you.”

There is also Single-column scrolling, just like on the mobile app. You can now scroll through your custom feeds in a cleaner, single-column layout.

The update will also give quick access to saved posts. There’s finally a shortcut in the menu for saved posts. Before this, you had to pin a column to view them, kind of a hassle.

You can “add a column by clicking the new column icon on the right-hand side of the screen for a faster way to customise your display. Copy a Threads post as an image, instead of using a screenshot, so you can include them in posts on Instagram and other apps.”

Meta is also testing a new feature that lets users upload a list of people they follow on X (formerly Twitter) to find those same accounts on Threads.

This tool is currently in beta, and Meta admits it’s not super smooth yet.

According to the app’s description, downloading your data from X can take up to three days, so it’s not exactly instant. Still, it’s a move that helps people reconnect with familiar faces on Threads and likely gives Meta some insight into how people are using other platforms, too.
